    Default Besieging enemy trait

In my latest campaign as Venice campaign I had a general laying siege to a castle(Ancona i think) and he got the besieging enemy trait which meant he had an additional upkeep cost of 400 florins. What is this? I thought generals had free upkeep or does it mean having that army costs me another 400 florins?
Could someone shed some light on this trait for me.

    Thanks
    EK

The army costs an extra 400. It doesn't show on the economy screen, though, as it's drained through console commands.
