    Default Florida is the South...

Well I was born in Southern Florida. Its a shame though my parents are foreigners in a sense (mom was raised in Canada) I have sort of a Southern Accent though Im from Kendall (a city near Miami). I dunno how but I have a ww2 reenacting friend who I always used to talk to, from Dalesville, and I got attached to my Southern Accent since then. Ive never spoken with that Northeastern Accent yet I kinda feel weird. At school it makes me go like "wtf!" when I hear people speak Spanish, though I know how to speak it. These Cubans then go and say "You from Cuba?" I mean there are so many people in this god damn city that weren't even born in this forsaken state!!!! what gives. Im like one of the few lucky people who were born here. :l

I mean how is Florida becoming Northern? I love that little yall and stuff. :l god be praised I aint from where demyankees are from. Oh and this further reinforced my arguement when my Latin friends mom didn't think I spoke Spanish and started speaking slowly as If I didn't. why is my state becoming the North. I did not come to the Earth to suffer this.

Southerners out of Florida dont consider us Southern anymore.

*We were the 3rd state to secede from the Union
*We had the only capital that didn't fall during the Civil war.
*We are the leader in agriculture in the South (Dammit aint that the whole definition of the South ya bafoon!)
*We say Pajahmas here, not pajamas like em northerners

    *Waives arms

"TREAT MY STATE LIKE THE DAMN SOUTH YALL RETARDS!"

oh btw we are the only southern state to have a county called Dixie county.

Go to Homestead theyre southern. I admit even my city has gotten northern in a sense but hey! Drive 10 miles south and your back in business! We can just start building towns in the everglades and try to save the situation.

Florida is a popular retirement destination. Northerners retire in Florida in substantial numbers.

Florida is a lot like Texas. Texas is getting alot of immigrants, mostly due to large cities like Houston, Dallas, and Austin being economically vibrant places. Also, I never recall hearing about Austin falling to the Yankees, so I dont think Tallahasee is the only Southern capital that did not fall.

But if you wanna be real Southern, you can wish your state was like Mississipi. I dont think so...

Texas and Florida aren't considered "Deep South" and never really have been. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia are the deep south states. Despite having a reputation for conservatism, I'd say that Texas and Florida are a lot more socially libertarian throughout history than the rest of the South.

hey if you go to Atlanta your gonna still find some Yanks and immigrants just like in Miami and stuff. Tampa is an urban southern sprawl ya know.

So is Orlando in a sense. But Ive been to Jacksonville, Gainsville and Cross city, mega Southern towns. Im probably one of the few people in South Florida to even venture there, a pity I'd think.

Thats an absurd Arguement! Florida has always been Florida since its foundation. Why dont people say SOuthern Georgia is really part of Florida. Why always grab our land. Centuries ago our state was actually streching from Baton Rouge all the way to Miami.

proves south florida has Southern Culture still. Having Yanks in big cities is common throughout the South. New Orleans, Houstin, Miami, Austin, Atlanta. :s

Florids capital is the most famous for not falling east of the MIssissipi becuz it actually got invaded, and them blacks got repulse. You know the guys from 54th massachussets in the movie glory? well we repulsed em in the battle of Olustee.

I also meant that literally Miami is so filled up with immigrants from everywhere that probz its not easy finding true natives. I mean was doing a lab in my chem class, and only like 4 or 3 of us were from here out of 8. :l half or less...

I agree with that. We, Texans, consider ourselves a part of the South but our attachment to being a part of the West can't be overlooked either. Texas is very conservative but we're more libertarian than other states. Since the beginning of our republic and becoming a state we've always had a huge distrust of the government. We still do.

Not really, I can easily consider most of Florida culturally deep south. Minus a few areas here and there anything north of Tampa and Orlando and you start to get into that deep south culture. Hell even parts of South Florida still have that deep south feel, a few small towns between Miami and Naples like Everglades City and Chokoloskee for example. The major areas like Palm Beach, Tampa and Miami's suburbs, and the South West Coastline have certainly gotten more New Englandy since every one of them and their damned mothers come here to retire. But as a whole I still consider Florida to very much be a deep south state.

Florida isn't really part of the south in the same way Texas isn't - just the image I guess. Although Texans can claim to be when it suits them...

As I discovered from southerners, Texas isn't southern, it's western. They all sound the same to me though.

As an European I see Texas more like Western (like in Western movies), not deep South, and Florida more like a Southeastern California (without the glamour of California).
