Default Can I play this game?

I don't have Medieval 2 Total War, but I would like to get it. I'm just concerned about the fact that I have a fairly basic laptop. I would love to play this game and specifically this mod (with kingdoms, of course) but I don't want to buy it if I can't play it (and get my hopes crushed).

My computer is a basic Dell Inspiron 1545 with Vista. Never put in a better videocard or anything for it, so I'm just curious if, as is, if it is good enough for the game.

If this is good enough, even for lowest detail possible, I will buy the game. I have wanted to play a game like this for a long time, and now that I have finally found one, I would like to play it.

Important Note: Some cards may not be compatible with the 3D acceleration features utilized by Medieval II: Total War. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX® 9.0c compatibility.

It would help if you posted your specs here. And also remember that to play this mod, you also need Medieval 2: Total War Kingdoms, the expansion pack to medieval 2.

    Edit:
    Here's the recommended specs:

The problem is I am not sure of my specs. It is just a basic laptop with Vista.

I found a site that supposedly says my computer is good enough. I'm pretty sure I have most if not all of the requirements. I think the only problem is the videocard, which isn't the best, but I think it surpasses the minimum requirements.

On low detail do you think it would be okay?

Remember that TATW has higher system reqs than vanilla Kingdoms. Especially when it comes to the orc spam vs. Osgiliath. Thousands of units + huge walls don't mix that well.

To see your specs, you can go to the "start menu/windows button thingy" or whatever it is called and search for "dxdiag" then push the icon that appears above.

At least I like this mod so much due to the eye candy But Medieval 2 isnt very expensive anyways, and you will probably get a better computer sometime in the future.

    Muffer, that`s not very helpful.

Simply googling for "medieval 2 demo" should give good results. (I only know links to german sites, so i can`t help you more.)

Steam is a game sharing platform. You can buy and download games with it.

Not sure bout ur graphic card, but with those (MUCH higher than mine), im pretty sure it has a decent graphic card as well, so you should be fine

the vanilla med2 is quite cheap now, and im 100% sure u will run it smoothly, or close to it, as for TATW, you can lower the unit size to normal, rather than huge, and also get rid of shadows, that should get u going...

This assuming ur pc has a graphic card matching that processor and ram, wich im quite sure it has

Alright, so I downloaded the demo. It runs pretty well on low detail, but after a while the game crashes due to the video card (so the computer says), so it looks like, for a while, I will not be able to play the game...

Makes me sad. Always thought the movies could have used a bit more battle scenes, and I was hoping to make my own battles with this game and mod.

Oh well...Guess I'll go watch the movies and read the books again.

Thats strange you had a crash. I also have a dell inspiron 1545 with vista and i can play medieval 2 fine on low graphic settings. I can play smaller battles with higher graphic settings fine.

Ye that happens when you don't have sufficient Video card memory. Your processor and RAM can handle it for sure, it must be your integrated graphics card holding you back.

I assume you have a PCIe slot? GeForce 512MB graphics card can run the game on high with no lag until you see 3000 men on the screen.

I need a better power supply then I can make much more efficient use of the graphics card and processor power!
