Icon5 pre-1917 russian archives (russian experts only)

i have a friend who asked me for my help, her great-grandfather was (twice) decorated by the russian court/tsar, and was supposedly invited at the baptism of one of the daughters of the tsar. also he did some some (art) works during his stay there, mainly portrait-sculptures of the imperial family in mother-of-pear material(i don't know if any survived the 1917 revolution)

anyways, for all the russian experts out there, is there any possibility that i could find his name in the (imperial) russian archives (i'm assuming they weren't destroyed during the bolshevik revolution??)? i'm not familiar at all with the russian system. all i have is a name and a very blurry picture of his medals

Bro, this is something you'll most likely need to go to the national archives with, in Russia.

In 2005, a Turkish author was able to find documents from World War I and published a book containing them. I believe the archives containing documents from that era was just opened so you gotta go to Moscow and check it there.

MAXIMUS? Was your father nobility? If so there are many nobility organizations out there. There were basically three books of nobility. Bronze Book, Silver Book, and Gold Book. These are kept by these organization for purposes of record keeping Also churches may have some records, depending on if you know where in Russia he is from and if those records were not destroyed during the troubling times afterward.
