Hey guys, i am wondering if there are any good TV drama shows to watch or rent.

I've heard great things about shows like Sopranos (im a big mobster genre fan) and this show my friends recommended me called Mad Men.

So what do you suggest i should start watching (doesn't have to be the two mentioned above)?

    Sons of Anarchy.

    From Wikipedia page.

The Sons Of Anarchy (SOA) is an outlaw motorcycle club with many chapters in the United States and overseas. The show focuses on the original and founding chapter, Sons Of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original, referred to by the acronym SAMCRO. or Sam Crow. This nickname is also reflected in the original title of the show, Forever Sam Crow. The Redwood chapter is headquartered in Charming, California, in a clubhouse adjacent to the Teller-Morrow auto mechanic shop. Led by President Clay Morrow, the club protects and controls Charming through close community relationships, bribery and violent intimidation.

Club members wear vests known as "kuttes" (jacket with the sleeves cut off). The SOA patch on the back is a grim reaper wielding an M-16 with a bloody scythe blade and holding a crystal ball with the anarchy "A". Only full members can wear the "patch". Other smaller patches on the vest stand for different things, examples being "Men Of Mayhem", which is worn by club members who have spilled blood on the club's behalf, and "First 9", worn by the original nine members of SOA. Jax has also worn a baseball cap that says "Reaper Crew", and at least two female characters affiliated with the club (Gemma, Tara) have crow tattoos. The Sons ride customized Harley-Davidson Dynas. Club members have "day jobs" in local industries, most of them working at the Teller-Morrow garage, but they primarily make money by illegally importing weapons, modifying and selling them to drug gangs in the East Bay, along with protection runs for local businesses by protecting valuable truck shipments from hijacking.

SAMCRO keeps meth traffickers and drug dealers out of Charming, which puts them at odds with the meth-distributing white supremacist Nords, headed by Ernest Darby. SAMCRO also has to deal with a rival Oakland-based motorcycle club (MC), the Mayans led by Marcus Alvarez. Other groups in SAMCRO's orbit include the San Francisco–based Chinese mafia Lin Triad, led by Henry Lin, the Italian American Cacuzza crime family, the Real IRA of Ireland, which supplies them with illegal Russian-made guns, the "One-Niners", an African American street gang (who also appeared on The Shield, thus possibly putting the two in the same fictional universe) to whom SAMCRO sell weapons, and various affiliates in the state prison system, where many members of the club have been incarcerated at one time or another. The club operates out of a clubhouse on the same lot as the Teller-Morrow auto shop. The clubhouse includes a living area (where members sometimes crash for the night), a bar, a pool table, a kitchen, a workout room, and the "chapel", a room with an elaborate conference table made of redwood that has a reaper logo carved into the top. The club also owns a secluded cabin in the woods and formerly had a warehouse outside of town where they assembled the illegal weapons. John Teller and Piermont "Piney" Winston co-founded SAMCRO in 1967 following their return from service as paratroopers during the Vietnam War. Six of the "Redwood Original 9" members were vets; Clay Morrow was the youngest of the original members. John died in 1993, and his widow, Gemma, married Clay. John and Gemma's son, Jackson (Jax), is Vice President of SAMCRO. Jax is also connected to Tara, a doctor at St. Thomas Hospital.

Also seeing as you're a big mobster fan, I recommend the new show "Boardwalk Empire", there is actually a thread about it on this forum.

    This.

Although I would go even further and say The Wire was simply the best tv show ever made.

After The Wire, I would say Mad Men is excellent as well, very subtle, historical and stylish with great character development. Probably my second favorite drama of all time.

Boardwalk Empire looks good but is only 2 episodes in so you can start watching that every week with not much catching up to do.

    Sons of Anarchy
is pretty good if you like the whole anti-hero thing and Katy Seagal is superb.

The Wire. Greatest TV show ever created.

Thouroughly enjoyed every season, extremely consistent show and out of all the characters there was only ever one which I didn't like.

Didn't like because you didn't like or didn't like because it was poorly written? Gotta ask because the first is ok.

I wish there were good TV series that didn't focus on America in one aspect or another, societal or military. Obviously I'm not ignorant enough to say that there aren't any good programmes except American, but I don't really have a good eye for TV.

The Sopranos is excellent, as well as hilarious.

One of my favourite scenes from the Sopranos. Bad language is used so don't watch if you don't like. No spoilers:

Both of them are very good but I recommend that you watch the Sopranos first! They are just unbelievable and you would love it since you said you like gangster genre.
Then you can check out the Mad Men, it's bit different and all but it's nice and enjoyable to watch. It's the 60s comeback but in cool and classical sense, no hippies and flower children there .

The greatest ever American TV Drama (and American book series):

    Dexter.

Cliffhangers that get worse and worse and are sustained over multiple episodes. Shocking twists that make you cry out for more. And the fact that, should anyone ever spoil the ending to you, you will want to kill them, it is that good. Brilliantly made with a soundtrack so good that one day you will find yourself humming the themetune during your morning routine (and will later find you wondering if you are right in the head).

    Second best: True Blood.

Problem: It's a Supernatural (mainly Vampire) Drama. If you aren't prejudiced and have intelligence you are still reading so in that case I will continue. It is brilliantly produced, music and scenes are perfectly put together. It can be hilarious, shocking (often not in a good way), it is exceedingly violent and often contains nudity (including the hot lead actress).

Why is this not another Vampire Romance? If there were Vamps, this is how people would react: fear -until they taste the sex It's not just about Vampires.

Final note: If a typical 10 year old Twilight fan (and most likely Stephanie Meyer too) saw this they would be mentally damaged.

    House M.D.

Hugh Laurie is brilliant. He is also brilliant as Gregory House, drug addict and Doctor. He insults his patients but cures impossible cases. It's hilarious.

Pity I have only listed American Dramas... but they are the best.
