Default Germany Pays off WWI Debt

Its seems that Germany has finally paid off the reparations set upon it by the allies after WWI. I didn't think they still had to pay it after Hitler basically said f-off.

AH stopped paying, spent even more on re arming, Germany was split [post war into 2 and lost terr, W Germany carried on paying, 1.5 billion upto 1953, and then stopped, Germany was re unified in 1990, with a condition, to pay of those debts within 20 years. This is dwarfed by compenastion to Holacaust suvivors and other victims of the war, SS Camp guards oddly qualify for extra compensation.

Do you think it was easy for them to go through that every day? It's not like they could refuse to do anything, not everyone in the SS was a psychopath you know!

By oddly i refer to that they get the same surviviors benifit that the inmates are entitled to. Its odd because Nurmburg determined they were all acomlices after the fact, and were all members of an ilegal organisation, the ones that caused the genocide in the main, to then grant them the same post war benifits that camp surviriors got, is indeed odd.

If only we hadn't wasted our money on those two useless countries (WW1 wise) and liquidated so many of our worldwide assets to pay for it, this country would be so much richer right now

    That was done in 1971.

Not all of it. Much of it remains unpayed. Although, I guess it was intended to be that way.

yep, it was. grants don't have to be repaid.

anyway the huge political capital and various economic benefits america gained after the war more than made up for the billions of dollars pumped in reconstructing europe

I suppose they may have meant it from a 1919 context...

To be sure, the expected repayed bit ended in 71, much was never intended to be re payed, intrestigly UK unexpecytedly went labour and kicked out WSC, to the USA this looked like Uk was now a commie hotbed, its Marshal plan went into draconian shape untill they worked out that this was not so and slackened the punative effects on the Uk.

finally we can use that money to rebuild our empire... would be kinda funny if history went that way. :p
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

What's odd is that historiography has cleared Germany from being at fault for WW1 for decades already, while apparently they still had to pay. Did the British ever pay Germany for taking away it's colonies? I hardly think so.

Lo Nations took them, not UK, it was one of the prices of the armistice, no one forced Germany to acept the conditions, perhaps a US fund to buy some more history books is in order.
