It was only mentioned in my Biology class in public high school as a point of ridicule.
I went to a private Catholic school and luckily my biology teacher was sane. She didn't flat out say the creationist ideas were wrong, but she made a strong case for evolution. The brainwashing took place in theology class, which hopefully public schools don't have.
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."
My shameful truth.
They are supposed to believe in a sort of intelligent design, its in the catechism. This is a strange breed of southern Catholicism. It has crossed orcs with Gondor men. Now we have this sort of militant movement within the archdiocese to adhere to a literal meaning of the bible while the majority (moderates) keep to themselves about it and retain their dignity.
Hahahaha. Really, I don't understand why evolution cannot be the intelligent design. I also believe the Vatican spoke about this recently too...
The Vatican claims Darwin's theory of evolution is compatible with Christianity
Also, don't you need to believe that the earth is only 4000 years old or something to be a creationist? I mean that's just crazy talk and I did piss poor in the sciences.
It all depends on how you look at it. For me its too convenient for the Catholic church to just change a thousand year old doctrine when proven incorrect and expect to retain any sort of credibility. It can be compatible if you want to think of it as compatible, but in actuality it is in direct conflict with the traditional theological explanation for creation. Unless one is willing to view the bible as complete allegory (which is very rare in my own experience) christianity cannot stand on its own.
There is a video on youtube about an interview with a HS biology teacher in the south. He claims to teach creationism because he believes it is true and because his students believe it is true. Obviously, we should be teaching what our students believe in and not what is factually correct, like I believe, personally, that a certain state which will remain nameless, sucks and my teacher should of taught this.
I promised phier I would find the video but I cannot, Ill keep trying though.

My shameful truth.
I heard from a guy who's brothers cousins best friend's sister said she heard that the new bioteacher at their school somewhere in the south is teaching it. So... yea its pretty much everywhere in our highschools.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.
Really depends on the area I imagine. Never once in any Massachusetts public schools was I ever taught creationism in any way shape or form.
Those ideas came from my Catholic Church and CCD in particular, nor did they attempt to disprove evolution either, for the record.
Well, whichever federal district has the Dover School District doesn't have to mention it at all.
One thing is for certain: the more profoundly baffled you have been in your life, the more open your mind becomes to new ideas.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
I'm sure there are a few pockets where inbreeding is the norm, if there are: they probably don't take evolution too seriously anyway.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, but wiser people are full of doubts.

Never in my experience were we ever taught creationism in high school. America's school systems have many problems, but generally that is not one of them.

I just know the epicness will blow your minds!!
My biology teacher does believe in it, though he doesn't teach it because it's never a subject.

My mother was born and raised a Catholic, went to church 3 or 4 times a week, and attended a Catholic High School.
She absolutely did not believe in limited history creationism, and in fact mocks the fools who parade this nonsense on television.
"Every idea is an incitement. It offers itself for belief and if believed it is acted on unless some other belief outweighs it or some failure of energy stifles the movement at its birth. The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker's enthusiasm for the result. Eloquence may set fire to reason." -Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
