No, this isn't a longwinded thread detailing my recommendations, but your recommendations. As some background, my love of music has been confined to the classical and romantic periods as well as the 1960s and 70s. I recently started exploring the baroque period by way of Handel's Coronation Anthem No. 1 - which is wonderful. I'm also really digging Vivaldi, specifically Gloria in excelsis deo (RV589, to be precise.) Other than that, I'm lost. I know I could look it up on Wikipedia, but they also said "The Four Seasons" is good, which it's not.

So, what I would like from you is a list of recommendations for Handel and Vivaldi, complete with which recordings are good. It might also be good to hear about some of the lesser known composers, just as long as their works are accessible.

"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

Gah! So much to get through. Taxandrius, I probably should have mentioned I'm not a fan of Bach. I don't know why. I will listen to the piece again later though. Stavrofos, I wouldn't normally listen to anything you have to say, but thank you for introducing me to Lully. I really enjoyed that first piece.

As for everything else, tomorrow is another long day. Thanks a lot though.

I'm haven't listened to much Baroque music but I like some pieces. For example:

    Bach's Cantata 106.

(and the rest of the cantata)

    And some opera.

    (Handel - Rinaldo)
