Increase The Number of Units in Battle

I'm sure this has been answered a million times before but I didn't really know what to search for to check. It's not specific to SS but thats what im playing at the moment so would be great if it was part of this.

Basically, is there any way to control more than 20 units in battle. is there any mod or sub mod that increases the total number of unit tabs you can control and use in any one battle. I know the AI takes command of a second army in the campaign but is there any way you can mod the game so you could take 40 units into battle say?

It may well be impossible but I thought I would check as I just dont think there is enough room for a real epic siege against another play and we all know the AI is fairly retarded when it comes to assaulting a citadel.

I dont know for sure but i imagine it would be a hardcoded limit, so probably not, but as i have no experience with this kinda thing im not 100% sure
