    Default noobie questions

    Hiya,

I tried a campaign with SS 6.3 and I had a few questions:

It's very hard to recruit an army, I mean there are few troops available to be recruited in a castle you have to wait ages for the troop recruitment to replenish itself. I suppose you've done that to make it harder, and not just spam army after army, but still, I'm playing as the French, and it's hard to win against the brits when they're sending 6 stacks against my one, especially since my one is historically accurately filled with a mix of troops, not just elite troops. Am I doing something wrong somehow?

Also, I absolutely do not get any guild requests anymore. I used to get some, such as knights hospitaliers or explorer, thieves guilds, which I kept refusing as I wanted templars, merchants and so on. Now it's been like 30 turns I do not get a single request, I've read it's harder to get guilds in SS but I should be getting something :p Is there a bugfix I overlooked?

cheers on a great mod otherwise!

you're missing a word there mate

I installed the fixeds thanks Meneth. I assume they don't require to restart a campaign?

They don't. Only the sub-mod Compilation does, and only if one isn't already using 2.6+

Hey what's up everyone. Didn't even download the mod yet. I tend to do a lot of reading on it before I do. However there is a LOT of reading. I did read all the important stuff though I believe. Just a couple of questions come to mind as I've read.

    1) Am I to expect that there is only 1 turn per year? What about seasons? Snow?...ETC? Or is it 2 turns per year? And Why not 4 turns per year each representing the seasons?

    2) I read some posts that have to do w/ the script of the game. I come from playing RTW mods...So I'm used to having to activate the script. Is the script automatically initiated in this mod, or do I need to do that some way? If so...how?

Sorry for the newb questisons...but it's a wonder how I can install mods so knowing about how they work etc is a mystery to me.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm going to start the installation process tonight with the bug fixes for 6.3. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Wish me luck.

    1. Vanilla 6.3 is 1TPY. Download Meneth's Submod Compilation to get 2TPY.

    2. The campaign script runs in the background. You don't need to click on anything in particular.

The new streamlined SS Setup is in the SS mod directory. Run it to choose what submods you wish to run.

Thanks for that Albath. But another question. It seems your installation instructions have a conflict of intrest.

In your FAQ's it says that No patch on the kingdoms expansion is needed. That it is good out of box installation vs the 1.5. Yet the installer says that you need to patch kingdoms up to 1.5. So which is it? Patch it to 1.5, or go with it straight out of the box?

    The alternative installer, mirror 4?

If you install kingdoms, you already have 1.5 IIRC

That is incorrect Gold Edition comes already patched upto v1.3 for M2 vanilla. While after installing kingdoms from it that is v1.4 itself you still need to patch it to v1.5.

Promoting of illegal activity i.e. Asking to Hack or Crack the Hard-coded limits is a Violation of TWC Rules.
Any Continuation to this and the guy will be in trouble and i'll close the thread.

Alright...more noob questions. I really do apologize in advance. I'm just not too savy with this stuff and you have multiple descriptions floating around for some of the same procedures.

    1) How do I check to see which version of kingdoms I'm running? Because I downloaded patch 1.5 but am not sure if I installed it correctly.

2)I have 2 new Icons on my desktop: a. Stainless Steel b.Stainless Steel mod launcher. What's the difference between these two and what do I use them for?

3)I've read that when downloading sub mods you have to activate them from another folder? Huh? I need help. I can't find this.

4)Where is the sub mod manager? I can't find this.

5)I'm pretty sure I installed the fixes correctly. But how do I know for certain?

Sorry if these questions have been answered before. But it's either I've read and don't understand or didn't read these answers.

I will prove to be your most difficult noob. I just hope you have the patients for me.

Use SS6.3_installation_patcher_v.2.5.exe and point it to your mods/SS6.3 install. It will a) install the fixes in version 2.5 and b) create icons that are more descriptive then the ones you started with. Its designed to bring the alternative installation on the same level as the "normal" version, including creating a startmenu with all important links and a united uninstall entry. And the information about patch 1.5 in that installer is wrong, as is the suggestion to copy the Medieval folder. SS6.3 is 100% modfoldered and thats just not necessary. Did you head the instructions and install the game in M2TW/mods/SS6.3 instead of the instructions of the installer to install into the M2TW base folder?

    1) One of the corners when you start the game. It's irrelevant though, both 1.4 and 1.5 work.
    2) That second one is probably a short-cut to the sub-mod manager, or possibly just a duplicate.
    3) It's in the folder SS6.3, and is named SS_setup.exe
    4) See point 3
    5) Look at the campaign map banner of Norway or Lithuania and see if their banner is correct. Norway should have a lion, and Lithuania should have a horse or something. If Norway has a harp, and Lith has a cross, the Fixes aren't installed properly.

As he is using the alternative install, funnily enough it isn't. The patcher program will fix that and autolaunch ss_setup.exe at the end so hopefully this will be solved fast and easy.

Also. How are the startup icon & the setup icon supposed to work together? Every time I want to do a new campaign I have to go through the set up and choose which mods to implement then hit the stainless steal early campaign? And what about switching between multiple campaigns? Do I have to go through the settings again and remember how a previous campaign was set before I play?

If the new campaign is to have the same settings, you don't need to re-run the setup.
Yes, when switching between multiple campaigns with different settings, you have to remember the settings. Tip: put the settings in the save-name, or have a list in a separate file.

I have another question, when will Medieval 2 become open source software? What is the estimation normally for games to become open source? With open source I mean that you can change anything you want without restrictions or limits.
