    Default Europa Univeralis 2 fans...

    unite!

I got my hands on the game a few days ago and I was wondering about a few things... There's people saying that the game is bugged and also I wanna know about mods. So, please, if anyone knows, tell me:

    1) what patches are out there, where (as paradoxplaza seems to be down) and which are critical?

    2) which mods are good (let's keep the lists to maximum 3 per poster)

    3) anything else I need to know?

I hope I get to playing it in a week. Right know im winning the war for the Confederates in Antietam....

Get the 1.09 patch, its the latest and best of them All.

Then I would recommend AGCEEP, which is found on paradoxplaza(when it´s up, that is). It adds many realistic events, corrects historical inaccuracy and has many fantasy events aswell you can activate. It also has new graphics like sprites, shields etc.

Age of Nationalism is probably the mod to look for in the Age of 1770-1914, although I think AGCEEP is better

AGCEEP, play that, adds a lot of events to the game and generally makes it more fun. Plus their are lots of fantasy events and additions you can get for it.

Like if you want to play as Byzantium if you dont want to be bored after 1453 you will NEED AGCEEP and probably even the byzantium extra events. Their are even events like this for Italy and Granada. Plus lots of HYW events, like if you win as the english.

    what they said :
    1.09 +AGPEEP 1.39
though the later still has some problems in the scripting of the most complex events involving several countries
    nothing critical though.

    Definently Crusader Kings
It is in my opinion a great game seeing as how it is both challenging and fun!

    PS
It could also have something to do with me being immensely interested in the medieval period..

Crusader Kings is a so-so game. For example the mongolians will always overrun all of europe, vassals will secede from you for no reason, even if their 100% loyal, etc. Would be a fun game if it weren't for that.

Hearts of Iron 2 is a great game, the easiest to get into of all the paradox games imo.

Victoria is a good game, but it has a learning curve. Plus a lot of historical events are known not to fire properly, like WW1, if you do things slightly different.

Knights of Honor isn't a paradox game but its published by them. Its ok, definately worth a try for what it costs though.

IMO EU2, Hearts of Iron 2, and Victoria are their best games, in that order. I play HOI2 the most though, if it wasn't for those problems with crusader kings that would be high up on the list as well.

I tried the demo for HoI 2 but had no idea what was going on. Plus I don't like the thing that you have to ask a defeated enemy's permission to take their lands in EU2(is it like that in the other games?)

I love Europa Universalis II!! It allowed me to pass World History Class in 10th grade! Seriously though, it is one of my favorite games of all time, however all of the rest of Paradox's products have somewhat disappointed me. I played the original Hearts of Iron (don't know about Hearts of Iron 2) and didn't really like it. I could crush everyone as the US and as the Germans I could have done the same, but after I captured Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad and the Soviets surrendered, they immediately declared war on me again! A lot of the game mechanics I didn't really like (I found air power to be generally useless) and the diplomacy was kind of silly. I can't play Victoria because I think I'm just not smart enough. One of the reviewers of the game said you need a masters in economics to play it, and that's kind of how I felt. As far as Crusader Kings, I think the politics of the time, being as personal and dependant on the individual monarchs as they were, are just too complex to replicate on the Crusader Kings engine and the games suffers for it. It's one of those games that could be really fun, but falls a little short.

    That's my opinion at least.

You have to do the tutorial for HOI 2 and read the HOI2 wiki (google it), it took me a while to get good at that game. I'd recommend playing as Russia to start, btw. The US you have to build a lot and different types of units, with Russia you start with a lot and can get away with using mass infantry. Also Germany is difficult to start as you have to fight on 2 fronts.
    HOI2 isn't a very complicated game.

With EU2 you have a warscore, the higher the score the more territory you get. If you control ALL of their territory you can vassalize them and/or take a TON of their territory. HOI2 you just take it until you declare peace, and usually can get a ton still or simply annex them when you take it. With EU2 you can vassalize them and wait 10 years and get them to 190 relations then annex them, or you could take all their lands besides their capital, war them again, then annex. Its like this because countries didn't historically take over huge countries in one fell swoop at this time, plus it makes the game last longer.

In HOI2 you can immediately use the territory, but you lose if if you make peace with the enemy without annexing them or demanding the territory you took. In Victoria you can completely annex them like in HOI2 or take territory and then demand it for peace, however you can use the territory until you win it unlike in HOI2. However taking huge swathes of territory in Victoria or EU2 will get other nations mad at you and generally isn't a good idea, heh. On Victoria if you take all the land of a large country, like france, and then annex it they will become EXTREMELY angry with you. So you take a little at a time, or if you have claims you can make them your puppet and they will give you what you have claimed on them.

You should look up the HOI2 or Vicky (for victoria) or EU2 wiki on google, they answer a lot of questions and have good walkthroughs for the games. Thats the only way I really learned, that and asking questions on this board. After you learn one of their games the rest are pretty much easy to learn but they all have some special features that you have to look up and read about before you can really pick it up.

I really dug CK and am really torn between playing the newly patched Rome and trying out the new 1.5 patch for CK that should come out this week. That's beside the point however. What I immediately wantd to say once I saw this thread was that I wish my modding skills were up to the task of importing the EUII map into RTW. I think the province sizes are about equal, EUII just includes the entire world. Crop it down to just the habitable parts of Eurasia and Africa and try to achieve what even Alexander and Genghis couldn't. Am I just mental or is that a worthy mod project?

From what I can see it makes it harder however once you beat a team you get stronger and they get weaker so it becomes easyier and easyier. Which is fun...every time the treaty expires DOW! Lol

By they i mean all the AI, heh. In this game their is a meter called "badboy" the higher it is the more people will generally dislike you. If you annex an entire nation that is large you will get 2 badboy for every territory if its civilized, and 1 per every country that isn't civilized.

Their is a way around this though with uncivilized countries. Since taking territories from peace with them gives no badboy you just take all their territories but their capital (or up until you get 100%) and keep doing this until only their capital is left. When you take the capital you will only get 1 badboy.

Its unavoidable with civilized countries though, however if you have a MASSIVE army and tons of money you could choose to do it anyways and put up with several wars, lol.
