From my point of view the best board game simulation to give the right sort of feel for a Napoleonic battle was Simulation Publications Inc's "Wellington's Victory" which concerned Waterloo. The map was an adaption of Fortescue's map of Waterloo.. Heavy skirmish screens backed up by columns & lines of infantry, massed batteries, excellent cavalry charge mechanism etc. My friends & I adapted many of the ideas for games with miniatures.

Yes a monster game, gathering dust in the attic these days along with' Ney vs Wellington' about Quatre Bras using the same system. I remember there was something wrong with the skirmisher fire table and some magazine rewrote some rules. I don't think we ever played it to the end but it looked good.Actually good to adapt for miniatures too as it had a quicker system than the other wargame rules. We even had loads of hexagonal tiles.
Another good one was Struggle of Nations about the 1813 campaign but it took so long to play. Age of Napoleon is so good because you can finish it in 3 hours and it works out differently every time.2nd edition is best.

My only problem while reading this book is my lack of knowledge of the Austrian army. Is there anything useful available that explains this?
