Question - Interactive Events; What Do They Do?

As the post title states:

What do the interactive events do exactly? I've received several merchant and church based interactive events, and to the best of my memory I've (so far) accepted every single one. Meaning, I've forked over the 1000-2500(f) to host or pay for the event, but is my coin being put to good use?

For the most part: get good traits and avoid bad ones.
I can only recommend a search for the event name (trade fair, great council (?), whatevertheir names), the answers there should (mostly) still be valid for 6.3

I'd like to know the answer, too. If I understand the descriptions correctly, they only pertain to priests in your capital province, possibly only those stationed inside the city.
