Default I feel like something is missing

I had Medieval Total War 2 for awhile, and didn't play it much when I first got it but later found out about mods. Stainless Steel was the most interesting of the group so I got 4.1 and started playing with it. It made the game much more enjoyable and I started seeing some of the stuff offered from the Kingdom version.

Reading other players accounts, I read stuff like the HRE being excommunicated at the start of the game and I give in and purchase both Kingdoms and Vanilla from Steam. Then I see that to install and get it running I won't have the like key features. I don't see the little pop up events anymore that were in Vanilla and I was wondering if it's because of the Steam method of getting SS to run. Is this because of the way I've had to get it to work? Or are they in there and I'm just being impatient?

If this is the case, what other features are going to be absent?

Welcome to the SS forums mate.
go in your Main Medieval 2 directory and delete the medieval2.preference.cfg file. When u start the game it will be regenerated again with default settings so maybe that might fix the problems u are having with events etc.

Unless my memory fools me the HRE beeing excommunicated is dependant on difficulty settings, same with several wars that trigger at the beginning of the campaign on certain settings.

Yes I don't know about 6.3 but in vanilla HRE has the lowest papal standing from the starting of the campaign and i think it's a bit historically accurate coz at that time HRE and Papacy were a bit against each other Investiture Controversy and all that.

I'm playing 6.3. Yeah, I tried bumping up the difficulty and even deleting the file. I don't get any events like Concords of Worms or other pop up events. I take that back, I do oddly get the deaths of kings and princesses being put on the field. And also the starting Mod information. Were the vanilla ones disabled? I don't wanna start playing a game and find out I can't play it fully fleshed out because of some problem.

Which vanilla ones are you talking about? Do you mean ones such as: "relations improved/worsened, War!!, Ceasefire, Alliance Announced, Coming Of Age, etc."? I still get those, but sometimes the relation changes don't appear. Though I'm using Alpha Zeke(i think that's his name now)'s Faster Turn Times sub-mod, that removes some of the notifications.

Other than those, i don't know which notifications you're talking about.

I deleted the preferences file. I'm talking about the things like the invention of the windmill and the early ones about aiding the Crusader's and such. Are they just not around anymore?

The relations, war, and coming of ages are still around.

Ah yes...I haven't seen any of those either. Even though they did nothing, it was still nice to have.
