    Default Magonel Should be Banned?

Magonel used by a player effecively neutralise AI infantry in field battles, the AI almost never uses magonels (and rarely other artillery/seige engines effectively) in the field. This is similar issue to the use of archer stakes during seiges. Should magonels be removed to provide balance in favour of the AI or should we all just try and resist the temptation to tar the enemy?

Ai uses magdonells. I target my cavalry directly to them, trebuchets and catapults. And yes, AI not abuse magdonels like catapults and scorpions, but dont tell me it not use them.

    Aren't they called Mangonels ?

And I think even though less intelligently AI uses them in some way. In a battle which AI had reinforcements (I had no idea the coming army had mangonels, didn't care to check it) my army got hit by a flaming artillery stone and killed good amount of my DFKs, I had to call back my Cavalries which was harrassing the missile units of main AI army and send them back to destroy the mangonels, so yeah I think that added some flavor to the battle. Though ofcourse, AI left mangonels defenseless and it was almost unfair to destroy it like that easy, but anyway that's my opinion of them.

As for stakes, don't use mangonel if you find it unfair.

I see the AI use mangonels, trebuchets, ballistae, all the time. Rather than not using mangonels or other siege equipment, I avoid the temptation to take out the enemy siege equipment right away at the beginning. That seems to make it a bit more fair.

I've never even recruited a Mangonel before, yet I've seen my fair share of AI armies using them. They seem to be infantry-only artillery, and i don't usually use artillery that way, so i rarely ever use them. Why should they be banned if some people enjoy using them? Is the temptation to recruit a Mangonel REALLY that hard?

If it were to be implemented, wouldn't it be better as a submod? So you don't force everyone who liked them to not have them again?

Should not be removed IMO, mangonels are the only way to defeat an army of 1600 scholarii. Damn byzantines

Aye Byzantines are pain. They just spam Archers and Missile Cav. and making me run after them all over the battlefield. For that, I made a pact with myself, I normally don't skip a battle through autosolve, even if it's minor, but I have decided that I will not enter the battle if the enemy has ridicilous amounts of missile units, but especially missile cavalry For sanity's sake ofcourse.

the first time I used scolarii against mongol heavy lancers.. the mongols wiped them out... a truly learning experience.. I was SOOOO proud of them, 3 gold fletches having managed to keep the original pair from the start of the early campaign. Not quite so over confident with them anymore

Decent archers or x-bows will remove the scholarii easily

No, archers don't remove Scholarii at all.

How did you lose against the Mongol cavalry with them? Were you outnumbered, or charged in the back?

If you think using a specific unit or tactic is cheating, don't do it. It's that simple.

If your faction has pavise crossbows (using arbalests), it's even more fun!

My personal favorite is of course sending a lot of cheap levy archers charging into range and unleashing a hell of 1 attack missiles >.> (Levy archers are very cheap to mass, since their upkeep is low ...)

Mangonels were banned under Geneva convention. They were considered to inhumane, scorching people like that.

i dont think that real medieval armies would have banned mangonels just because they had an unfair advantage over the enemy.

Heh, in that case, too bad for all the Greeks who mass-massacred people at gates with their "flamethrower" weapons.

Packing people in a gatehouse and hosing them down with liquid fire sounds like a crime against humanity >.>

At least the enemy hopefully learns to not attack again.
