I need a play!

This is my second year in an amateur acting group and this year we will set up a real play. It will be shown during several occations the comming spring. We are supposed to find different plays and then pick one that the whole group likes.

However, I don't really know any good ones. I like shakespear and other old classics a lot, but it has to be one that people doesn't know too much about (hamlet etc..). Also it can't be something too unknown since there has to be a Swedish translation of it. We're 8 girls and 3 guys but the roles doesn't have to be the excact same number. 11 or more is best.

Does anyone in this great cultural place known as twc have any suggestions?

Wagner's "Das Rheingold"?


I've read somewhere that Strindberg wrote some nice less known plays, but I might just be wrong there since I guess that Swedish authors might be famous playwrights in their own country...

Though I do not want to sound too nationalistic in such a thread, I propose "Het Gezin Van Paemel" (The Van Paemel Family ) by Cyriel Buysse...ofcourse, it would need a reworked version with Swedish dialects and names

I've heard too that strindberg wrote some plays too. I'll check some of them out and see if I can find anything nice.

Be nationalnalistic as long as you're helpful and... Never mind theat Dutch play has only got 6 roles
It's a lot easier to remove roles than adding so it almost must be 11 or more

you thought about the Crucible by Arthur Miller?
as far as I can remember theres a good few more female characters than male, and not too many key ones at all really

Tom Stoppards's plays are quite good. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is great and ties in to the Hamlet tradition really well. Also The Real Inspector Hound could be quite fun. Not sure about Swedish translations, but they're my suggestions
