    Default Merging Units

Hi, I have looked around before posting but couldn't see an answer but I was wondering if there is an option or a submod that works that allows the merging of two depleted units on the campaign map?

I know it is possible but wondering if anyone has something that works with SS6.3 and preferably (a long shot) something that can be applied mid way through a campaign?

    Thanks

If you mean what I think then you allready can. Put the units so they are in the same army and then drag and drop the unit card (the little square picture on the army tab) and they will merge. It is best to put troops into the unit with more experience to begin with as they are more likely to retain more experience. When possible it is better to retrain units in a city

No worries it happens sometimes. When dragging an unit card, just make sure mouse pointer touch on the unit card of the unit you want to merge. If just the frames of the cards touch eachother it sometimes doesn't happen, same goes for the transferable ancillaries/retinues.

Retraining in a city keeps your experience, so always go for this option if possible.

I agree. I always send my army to nearest settlement/castle to retrain if possible.

I normally only merge if my army dosn't have chance to retrain before the next battle so I'm not left with small units that will run away too easily.

Yes othwerwise it's too annoying, a unit with so few soldiers pretty useless in battles. Though once on a crusade, I had this dismounted crusader knight, and only SINGLE man left, all other crusaders I hired were spent already but he was there for countless battles on the way to crusade target and make no mistake I didn't keep him behind the line in safe, I made him fight every single battle, he had full gold chevrons so I kept him and treated him as 2nd in command of the army for RP sake. I conquered the target, returned home but he was still alive and I kept him until the end of the campaign. He was a true Knight, to be honoured and remembered.

Although from what I understand, M2TW tracks units experience on a per-soldier basis, when you retrain a unit, all new recruits join at the unit's average experience score (indicated by the number and quality of chevrons).

I always merge a unit with more experience into a lesser one, but so long as I don't lose the higher experience unit.

The lesser experience unit can often gain a few chevrons, while the weakened elite unit will retrain back at the unit's current experience score. If you went the other way, you'd have a lower experience elite unit, and a lower experience weakened unit (which will then retrain to the unit's current experience score... ie lower than it could have been).

Using this process, you can quickly gain a large number of highly experienced units that don't cost anything more to keep than a fresh recruit.

So what you guys are saying is that if lets say I have a unit of archers that is low on men and another unit of archers that has experience and I decide to merge them together, the one with the least experience I can merge with the most experience and it will add troops to the particular unit?

The resultant unit of two merged unit will have higher experience, when the portion of high-exp individuals is larger. The resultant unit will have lower experience when the portion of low-exp individuals is larger.

And if you merge two 50men units to form a full unit of max 90men, you will lose 10men in the process. Their value will be added to the experience.
