rome total war quit working

I,m using windows 7. all computer specs are up to date, RTW was working fine but now it does'nt start. i get no messages and the game simply wont start. I have had this problem before and solved it by unistalling and reinstalling the game. Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

I'm on Windows Vista. I started playing Rome Total War around 2006 and used to play for hours, and everything worked fine. I started playing again recently, and whenever I play Rome for an extended period of time, the game will sometimes close after a battle, before I get to save or do anything. Windows will give me the message that Rome: Total War has stopped working. I've done many things to find out what the issue is, but have been getting no results. Can anyone help?
