Default An idea: Add a campaign based in the middle east (similiar to broken crescent) to stainless steel

Start Date: 1170? (up for discussion)

    Proposed factions:
    Principality of Antioch (including edessa)
    Kingdom of Jerusalem (including Tripoli)
    Armenian Cilicia
    Seljuq Sultanate
    Byzantines
    Abbaside Caliphate
    Sultanate of Rum
    The Ayyubid Sultanate
    Kingdom of Georgia
Moors (can't remember the proper name for the moors in that region right now)
    Emergent: Latin Empire?
    Rome
    Venice
Genoa (could combine some of the italian states)
    Sicilly
    Cumans

(did these off the top of my head so need to check details on each faction)

If permission could be obtained from the BC team we could use some of their units.

Any ideas or intrest in this would be great, and if someone with more experience wants to do this then I am happy to take a back seat and help where I can.

This is very much a work in progress atm so suggestions and discussion is more than welcome

    More updates coming later...

Edited your title to convey your idea at first glance.

    lol thankyou

Also I don't think the map should be exactly the same as BC, the more I think about it the more it might be better to include more of the mediterranean, maybe even be based around the mediterranean so as to include the moors.

Or would this be better off being a stand alone mod than an add-on? :S

Negative comments are welcome too. 50something views and no one has anything to say? lol

Sorry, that was me refreshing the topic waiting for comments. Kidding

What map do you have in mind? I think the campaign map might be the first challenge - maybe post a map of the area you want in the game and with any luck that area is already made into a campaign map and available for use in other mods (I'm doubtful the BC map is available). With that visual aid you could begin a rough draft of the factions. Note that the more east you go the more this project will leave the scope of Stainless Steel and need new content. Maybe consider focusing the map like Battle for the Baltic does.

I think at it's largest something like this, give or take a bit. Leaving out most of spain and italy wouldn't really matter though. This gives room for catholic, orthodox and muslim factions to expand either way, which when I think about it will be the best way to make it intresting for all sides.

    Thanks for the pointer bane.

Hm. I think if you "shift" focus to the east you could concentrate more settlements in that region:

FWIW - I'd suggest moving the whole map up up a notch to take in more of the balkans - up as far as Hungary perhaps?
would also allow for Kipchaks to have northern edge of map.

I'm going out for a while now but later or tommorow I'll right a complete list of factions, features and map size that I want to include in the mod. I'll then edit it all into my OP.

I'm getting rather sick of the current campaign map and having tried the smaller campaigns I know their scale is the way to go. The area of the map you're going for looks good. It's not as small as the current mini campaigns but isn't too big. You can use up the faction and unit slots with lots of new ones without having to worry about running out of them.

One of the things you should focus on IMO is the terrain of the map. It should be somewhat historically accurate (I recall someone having said the current campaign map has lakes in it that shouldn't be there, that have been artificially made.) and it shouldn't waste space. Probably the biggest thing I dislike about the current large campaign map is how a lot of the terrain never ever gets used because it's blocked off by rivers without enough crossings or by impassable terrain. All the crossings don't need roads to go through them so they'd only get used occasionally. Another thing is sea/lake crossings where there's a bridge or river crossing right next to 'em, making them somewhat pointless. There are a few such areas I've found, for example the sea crossings north of Exeter in Britain. The bridge there can't be easily defended as you can flank them easily by using the sea crossings. I don't know if the crossings are there on purpose being historically accurate but that's something that should be researched upon.

Well, that's enough rambling from me, good luck with your mod!

Tell me if you need any help. I can't do 3D art, but I can do text editing, EDU, EDB, scripting, and similar. Pretty much anything text-related, really.

Ok so I have been drawn back into SS after defecting to RSII for a while. And would be intrested in trying to resurrect this. If anyone does want to do this, as before, I can only really help with research, ideas, unit descriptions and such but would be willing to put some hard work into it.

So first thing is back to discussing the map...

I like bane_tw's idea for the map,

I've always wanted to find a mod that just focuses on the byzantine empire, only broken crescent comes close
