Can any one explain to me the difference between early and late eras? does starting from early eventually leads to late with all its units, technology etc? or they just dont mix?

also is there any place where I can view all the factions units?

sorry Im new to SS and trying to learn more about it.

Click on Custom Battle, instead of beginning a campaign and you can see all the faction's units..Make sure you choose All in the period selection dropdown..It defaults to early period, and you will just see early period units..

    Coldfire88,

If you select an Early Era Campaign, as the years go by it will evolve into a Late Campaign. If you are using 6.3, sadly currently there is not a list of available units. If using 6.1 then have a look at the Honga THread in the Stickies

First of all your starting date differs (obviously) depending your choice. And yes if you play long enough you will get late units, there are some events that triggers technologies, like gunpowder. But I really recommend you to choose the Era you want to your taste, makes it much more fun. Cause Early Era to Late Era will take a lot effort and patience to see Late units avaible. Personally, I choose Late Era for I get access to advanced medieval units faster, such as Plated units.

Secondly, in Early Era there are many independent (rebel) regionsi so you have better chance to shape your borders to your will without risking to wage war with multiple factions at the same time. In Late Era you'll notice that factions have more shaped borders and there are less independent areas.

Also you should choose Early Era if you want to build up your settlements from nothing. In Late Era you'll see that you start with an Advanced City and an Advanced Castle. Losing them (especially at early turns) will significantly reduce your economic and military power.

And lastly, depending on your choice some factions will be avaible and some won't. I really can't remember which ones but should be some of these such as Teutons, Templars, Mongolians. You better check them from Faction Selection screen once you select Early or Late Era campaign.

Best place to see units is checking them from Custom Battle screen. At least that's how I do that. At first screen where you choose battlefield options, choose from "Late or Early" era option to see which units are avaible for specific eras, or just choose "All" to see all of the faction units at the same time.

    Hope that helps.
