    Greetings members of the CdeC!
Today I present to you a great friend of mine, a great friend of this community, Fev. I met Fev in the signature thread of TATW, he created awesome sigs there (I was a noob back then, can you believe that?) and I looked up to him. Anyways, he then started working in the Graphics Workshop where he evolved tremendously, and as he says, he is a great 2d-artist today.

Fev has listed a lot of his contributions below, but he has forgotten something. When I started the idea of the PS Basics Course, Ratbag was my companion. But after some events he couldn't, and Fev offered to help. Fev had to leave our companionship pretty early because of real life problems, but his tutorial was the base for Lesson 2. We had to change the tutorial to match the other tutorials and do some changes, but for Lesson 2, all credit goes to Fev.

I hope you, as I do, find Fev worthy of Citizenship.

    Yours sincerely,
    abbews

    Client : Fev

Fev Greetings, members of the Consillium de Civitate.

After 2 years on this forum and numerous contributions to the community I decided I'd like to become a citizen. I started my days here stalking the Forums of Third Age: Total war. Being a big lord of the rings addict, I really enjoyed my time there and quickly got started with 2D art. Having had no experience with that before, my first outcomes were pretty "basic", but I was very eager to improve, so I pulled off one signature after another, becoming better and better in the progress.
In the weeks before TATW's release, my signatures, though not being very graphically advanced, were hugely popular and used by a great variety of forum members.

You can find many of them here under my old name, "Fereveldir":
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=263878
And some more of them in my workshop, in the "old post" spoiler:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=248899

After the release of TATW I moved on to the Graphics Workshop, where I could greatly improve my 2d arts, thanks to the great and helpful artists there.
With a lot of practise I was soon good enough to help out others with my knowledge and abilities. I often visited the Sig/Avatar Service thread to accomplish people's demands and helped newer 2d-artists for example by creating a detailed Tutorial:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=309765

Furthermore, I also made myself familiar with 2d-modding, creating portraits for TATW and unit cards for the "Frontier" mod, as well as a logo and advertising signatures for said mod. All of those can be found in my workshop.
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=248899

Apart from my 2d work, I was also a translator and long time team leader for the German Translation of Third Age: Total War.
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=254949
Due to time constraints, I couldn't continue my work on this translation after its 1.4 release. I am not involved with the translation for TATW 2.1.

Since then I've been further improving on my 2D-skills, and I dare to say that I'm a very skilled 2d-Artist now. You can check my recent work in my workshop.

For me, being a citizen is not only a reward for ongoing contributions to the community, it also comes with a great responsibility and the obligation to act accordingly. You need to be a good example for other members, and that's what I'm trying to be.

    Greetings
    Fev

I will recognize his 2 tutorials in the graphics workshop as contributions. But i am not really sure some one should rise in rank only because created avatars, signatures and some unit cards, at this point it seems to be a bit slim on the contribution side.

I will go a bit deeper in to all of this but i would like to see what my colleagues have to say about all of this ass well before making my final call.

Boy has some talent and some spirit. What say you y2day? Your opinion on his work and contributions will have significant impact upon me in this application.

Would anyone mind if i asked him to make me a signature?

I'll take a Cheddar Burger and a chocolate malt. No salt on the fries please... And burn it. No Mooowing Cow for me.

    **************************************************************************************************

I went thru the thread starts, eyes ain't poping out of my head, like I thought they would with an artist. I have a question regarding this translating project. Is that labor intensive? I don't know how to quantify it except as okay...it's a contribution.

I went thru the applicant's workshop, perhaps I missed something because it was un uneventful trip. {Nothing eye poping I mean}.

I'm heavily waiting on Y's testimony and seriously thinking on abstaining as I would hate to undersell an artists work. Right now it's abstain or a no.

I'm all ears on a positive sales pitch. Please tell me I missed something. Yes the applicant is articlute, and a labor intensive trip thru his posts may perhaps reaveal that he might go out of his way for others. Atm that would still come up short for me.

Kay, I visited the applicants workshop again. Good, work but we have many non-citizen artists who have equal or superior displays.

He's a pretty tough guy for me to judge. As has been said earlier, for me signatures don't really constitute a great contribution to the forum and I have certainly seen work of equal calibre amongst non-citizens. Similarly, his German translation contributions are impossible for me to judge as well because I can't speak German so I can't decide whether they are well-translated or not. Help me out here, Heinz?

Looking like a no or at most an abstain from me at the moment.

First Fev. is a good guy. I remember when he first started up his workshop. It was about the time the GW was really taking off and he has been a steady contributor to that forum ever since. He has really improved as an artist over that time and a few of his sigs have blown my mind (wolverine). Now a citizen application is about contributions. I think his biggest could be the translation work. A full conversion mod translated to another language is alot of work. His unit cards are not the best I've seen (I don't think he is using the cin-editor ) His tutorial work and help with the course abbs mentioned are good contributions. Creating a signature by request I think is a contribution. If you give up your time to work for another member or this community than thats a contribution.. I would really like to see Frontier released if he is doing all the unit cards. That is real time consuming work (in Cin-editor) if you have to create 500 unit cards for a mod I will give you a badge no problem. Exspecially if they are good. Now with everything he has done and I don't see Fev. disappearing I will vote yes this time. It is close because you really can't point to one thing but the small things do add up. (They did for me)

Thanks for laying it out Y...

It is close because you really can't point to one thing but the small things do add up.
This is true. I'm gonna go back and look at some of the other artist applications.... This is a tough case for me, because as Y pointed out it's an accumulation of small things that add up to something substantial.

I would really like to see Frontier released if he is doing all the unit cards. That is real time consuming work (in Cin-editor) if you have to create 500 unit cards for a mod I will give you a badge no problem. Exspecially if they are good.
Is he the only one working on them and how far along are they? I think we only saw the one faction preview with a few cards...

    **************************************************************************************************

In researching the last five artists promoted I stumbled across this....

[FAILED 10/14/09] [Citizen] Fev (Patron: Carl von Döbeln) http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=300492

    ****************************************************************************************************

The last five artists promoted are all listed in the Citizen ante-chamber. Since their works are the only thing relevant to compare I'll forgo listing the names. Here are the common shared traits I found.

    1. If the larger part of the application was artwork, it was above average or straight up eye poping.

    2. Some of them had a broarder resumes whose cumulative total was overwhelming.

Based on this comparison, the body of work in this application still is'nt quite there. The first application did not draw votes, this one will, and the next one will succeed. I never like to vote NO, but nor will I compromise what I consider to be the standard.

If this applicantion is not passed may I implore the Curator to euthusiastically encourage the applicant to return one last time. This is why I strongly advocate that applicants ask for there reviews to be posted.

Perhaps a bill is in order where by the applicant may review their failed citizen review without it needing to become public....

It seems like not much has changed since he last applied for citizenship, in the exception of having created more signatures and avatars.

You have to remember that the translation has been finished and the mod released since his last citizenship application; that should give a boost to his eligibility.

As far as making signatures are concerned, I really don't see that as a huge contribution. It's worthy of a little recognition I suppose but for me it's nothing terribly major.

It is a small contribution. It really all depends on the number and the quality. I have worked hours on a single signature requested by someone. I have created over a hundred requested sigs easily. That is a lot of work, exspecially if you are using in game units and cineditor. Not saying that applicant has done that just for future reference. I don't think sigs alone is enough for citizenship but it should count as a contribution again if the quantity and quality is there. As far as the applicant it is a very close call. I would like to know the scope of his work for the Frontier.

Y, would you be willing to make the inquiry? I would, but I really don't recognize the in and outs of what to ask for nor how to phrase it.

I like what he has done so far. Reading, writing, and above all getting the point and passing it onto others in the style of a translation is a feat worthy of citizenship. Written language is far harder to understand and feel than spoken language after all as we are without the benefit of body and facial tones. I would like confirmation on if these are done well enough to allow for the German speakers on the TWC to enjoy their gameplay. The thread's in German so it's hard to tell if they love it or hate it but the normal back and forth of tweaking is apparent!

If this translation works out to be awesome I think it a fairly easy yes vote from me were I to have a vote. A good all around "Jack".

@HG, no-one would mind if he made a siggy for you.

Let's assume that he has done one text file.

Let's make this the export_units file, located in Medieval II/mods/Third_Age/data/text. This file governs the descriptions you see when you right click on any unit or ship.

    It is 173 pages long.

Imagine how long it must have taken him to translate this one file.

You guys are going to tell me that he spent ing hours doing a ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY THREE PAGE translation and that IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR A BADGE?

This is just one file in the text folder.

battle_descriptions is only 5 pages. Still a daunting task.

    campaign_descriptions is 12 pages.

How many of us would moan if given a 5 page or 12 page assignment in school? That's damn right, we wouldn't shut the hell up about it.

    diplomacy.txt is 21 pages.

Have I made my point? Even if he did a bare minimum of files for the translation, it's a ing ton of work. One certainly deserving of citizenship.
