    Default [COW team help needed] Common CTD after battle

    Hi

    We have serious problem and cant find solution so we really need your help friends

    Problem - CTD after battle or aftrer bettle+execution. In 90% when your 1 army fights with 2 enemy armies... Plz help if you can

    Check the units involved in the battle in custom battle and if it crashes then u know a file or two are missing from its path for a particular unit type.

    crash after battle

    also all units work 100%

    militaryenemydisband - Check this in historic_events.txt, if it is broken or not present then you get a CTD.

    I don't see that identifier in historic_events or event_strings in vanilla, are you sure that's the right file?

    Something is making a call for an event pic, my guess was that it's a historic event called by the CS.

    But in my experience with end of battle CTD's, it's usually a trait thing.

    Oh I thought you meant it was a general thing needed by all mods, nevermind.

    That might be right then. What's curious to me about the log is firing <factionleader> and <inherited> at the end of a battle, whereas the former usually fires at the end of turns(natural death). Does this only happen in battles where the faction leader is killed? If so then it's probably safe to look at those traits.

    Alternatively, you said that two armies are being fought when this happens. That might be why there's two lines for "minor_lose.bik" at the end which I guess is a video played when an army is defeated(or a faction, and it's treating every army as a minor faction?). If it's trying to load two videos simultaneously that could plausibly create an error.

    Just generally I'd say that unless all those lines are identical in every CTD occurrence it's a good idea to cross-compare and see which lines are always there. If that's what you posted already then I'm fresh out of ideas.

    That's a pretty common CTD error message component, I've seen various issues create it. But then if you alt+tab the game and check your log you'll find one of them, rather than 2. So basically I think that it usually isn't much of an indicator of what the problem is. A bit of weirdness in alt+tabbing that also occurs in crashes which upon resolution seem totally unrelated to the message... I think they're a result of the crash rather than potential information about the cause.

    If I had to fix it myself then I would check any instance of 'postbattle' triggered traits, checking their text descriptions also. Just remove them all and see if the problem can be reproduced.

    With the biks popping up on the end like that and after a battle ctd, I agree with Taigi that it's trait related in the ones I have chased down, more specifically the triggers not firing correctly.

    Look for any traits like this one from DLV:

    Comment out all of the triggers which use PostBattle. If there are nobles involved in the battle then it could be a trait triggered by the death, or becoming heir, or king.

    Check if militaryenemydisband is a historic event, and then if so make sure that it is set up correctly.

    Then check if to see if it's fired by a script. And then if so, check the script which is firing to make sure that the script cannot conflict with anything. Like perhaps the script doesn't expect 2 armies at the same time and it tries to launch 2 historic events at the same time and CTDs.

    I'm now guessing you have a script which disbands an army when it is defeated. But this script conflicts with itself when it tries to fire 2 historic events (2 of the same event) at once. Wild guess

    happens more commonly if you win or if you lose the battle? (or equally?)


    most traits happen if you win, like + command traits and such, so if the ctd happens more oftenly if you win, that increases the chances of being a trait problem

    bettle+execution
    same goes for this, executing prisoners always gives a trait to the general so that may also be the cause

    check for any key words such as ''prisoner'' or ''execute(d)'' on the export_descr_character_traits and disable them to see if it stops from happening

    yeah we same think that it is because of trait... now we try to remake them 3 times... sad that log doesn't show anything...

    It carches those errors but I don't think it yet has the ability to crossreference the cs.

    we havent any postbattle events/script friend

    I fixed the same reported error by adding info for all new factions to this file:-
    descr_faction_movies.xml
    I assumed it was because both the faction leader and heir had been killed in the same battle and the engine wanted to know which movie to play. And turning all videos off via .cfg made no difference.
