What is better - Legionarys or Urbans?

Hello,
I have recentley began playing rome total war with some of my friends and I have heard that legionarys are actually better bang for buck than their urban counterparts.
I was just wondering from your own experience in multiplayer which unit was more effective in games around the 20k mark.

You'll probably get more relevant information about MP use if you ask in the MP forum ... this is "General Discussion" and only a handful of MPers hang out here. I can tell you that in SP, the fact that Legionaries are cheaper and trainable in 1 turn makes them hugely more cost-efficient, as the decreased Attack values don't matter too much. In MP, my (VERY uninformed) guess would be that since their Defense is only 2 lower than Urbans (Attack is 4 points lower), Legionaries would still be very useful depending on who you're facing.

get a unit or two of urbans in your army for safe keeping, just in case your main line starts to break.

legionaries... mmm cant really think of any reason to get them in MP. poorer morale (good vs excellent), and upgraded legionaries are more expensive and still weaker than urbans. not very cost effective imo.

still, in campaign I'd go with legionaries due to the fact it takes only 1 turn to get them and the AI is so poor you shouldnt really need to crank out anything better than that

In MP you want urbans. In campaign they take 2 turns to build. go for legies.

in MP yes, but in campaign you could get two units (with possible upgrades) and the legies still got adequate stats to ferry you trough the campaign. If production did not matter in warfare i dont know what does. MP is a completely different and better story though.

In SP it doesn't really matter because you are facing the AI, which is not only hopeless on the battlefield, but is also incapable of recruiting armies of any logical composition. In MP DEFINATELY Urbans, that is no question at all.

Well it does matter considering the recruitment time is double. Go for legionary cohorts.

No, they are too good to come from heaven. They were created when the world was born, conquered hell just for fun and then decided to come back when Marius invited them. They didn't take heaven because they didn't consider Chuck Norris to be enough of a challenge.

If you want to be fair use legionarys, if its rome vs rome, Urbans are almost guarenteed to be the best choice

fair? don't see why Rome should limit itself to legionaries if other factions can crank out all their best/elite troops? legionaries can't do squat to cataphracts or chariots (not that urbans can anyway)

Well to be fair Legionaries serve well in the Seleucid army, where they are a preferable alternative to your Pikemen if you face superior Macedonian Pikemen.

I've easily beaten Urbans on MP, you're better off getting Legionaries and getting upgrades with the extra money, or use it to buy more men

I believe if you upgrade Legionary Cohorts to match an unupped Urban, then the Legionary Cohort is actually more expensive. So go for urbans. They're more cost effective.
