Default Rome Total War runs slower than Med2

Hey, I'm having an issue where on comparitive settings RTW runs much slower than M2TW. Now my fear is that since RTW hates multi-cores and I have an i3 processor on my laptop (which HP infuriatingly decided not to allow disabling multithreading in BIOS) I am only getting 1/4 of my processor power with RTW. I want to know if that is why it runs slower, or if RTW has issues with 64bit Win7.

EDIT: I meant to post this in tech questions. Can a Moderator move it for me?

People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history.

RTW and M2TW only use one core. The rest is dependent on cpu speed, amount and speed of your ram, free harddisc space defragged, gpu and dedicated ram.

I play RTW and M2TW good and I have a Phenom II in a homemade desktop with Win 7, 64bit. Noe of my four cores are disabled even though the game only uses one of them.
