Default Charging Enemy Generals - Making battles to easy.

    Hi all,

I have scanned around for anyone suffering a similar problem, i am running Stainless Steel 6.3 and am finding that the enemy general is just charging my lines far to early, exposing himself to my troops and allowing himself to be killed.

The death of these suicidal generals is more often than not allowing me to win easier than i really should be, is this potentially to do with any sub mods i am running? I am only running HUGEBATTLES and various small edits to descr_mount . . . .

    Thanks

It is simply the Battle AI that u are using i think SS offers many AI's to play with so you can check which one suits your playstyle.

I believe the battle AI is the same for all, I think only the campaign AI is changed between Gracul, Savage, and Lusted. I am no expert so hopefully someone who is could confirm.
Oh, for Heaven's sake, now you're being deliberately stupid.

Battle AI in 6.3 changes automatically every few minutes to a different version - for everyone.
So while the setup settings are the same the exact AI script on the battlefield might be another.

Correct. BAI is Germanicu5. CAI is where you have the option of choosing which is completely different.

    Change to Late Period Bodyguards...

Those punks are HARD to kill... Until certain troops come out...

Well it's also not fun when the enemy general strolls through your mass of spearmen unphased.

Unfortunately this issue hasn't been dealt with i suppose coz it is a cavalry unit so it always races in first.
We can make the general completely idle but that's no fun either.

Somewhat related to this: I noticed Byzantine general units are REALLY strong, which is kinda cool when playing Hungary, it makes the battles harder.

I've noticed that in many battles teh AI has more than one General unit, is it at all possible for any second general to take command after the 'true' general dies in the usual AI suicide way, thus reducing the impact of leader loss?

The disadvantage with high star AI generals is that it turns any battle into a 'kill the leader' objective then a plain chase down the routing enemy units, when the AI general is not fully 'starred' then it is more of a normal battle as it becomes less of a 'get the general' scenario?

To alleviate this problem a bit, I increased all general's bodyguard hitpoints to the vanilla default of 2. At least I was able to decrease accidental death of AI generals to some certain degree.

That would help. It's still funny though, that the heavy mail/cloth barding general's bodyguard that you get at the start can defeat "better" cavalry units in a fight because of having 2 hp ^___^

I suppose it keeps the enemy general alive twice as long when he's busy playing with the spearmen or being bolted by arbalests ...

Yeah, not looking forward to that. The standard European BGs are annoying enough since Lithuania has a BG with unbarded horse.. but the Byz chaps are even better >.> (luckily there is always AP units and of course, the magical *stakes* solution).

My enemies general are always the last one that charge, and they also try to hit in my weak spots. I try to hunt the enemy general with javelins and crossbows but he is always behind his men and never stand at one spot which make it hard. He might get heavily wounded but he is generally passive so its difficult to reach him. So i have to ambush with javelin cavalry or ordinary calvary or kill 70-90% of his men before i can reach him. Yeah i'm using a lot of foot soldiers against the Muslims.

This usually happens to me in custom battles, rather than campaign ones.

A better way than modding is to just stop the enemy general from charging in like an idiot. The best thing is to reinforce with Beef Jerky unit from behind, so as soon as they enter the battle the general will go after them instead of rushing at your spears.

I think u guys just don't accept the fact that even the tough custom AI's are now your ***th and there is no hard part for you anymore.

OH HOW I WISH THE ENEMY GENERAL DIED EASILY.
I was playing an early era Byzantine game, and fighting off a Turkish siege.
I stupidly started the battle before I deployed my troops where I wanted them, so the initial combat was chaotic.
I had mostly poor quality troops, but they managed to destroy and/or rout the entire army.
    Except for the general's bodyguard.
The bodyguard himself fell, but the general, the last Turkish unit left, managed to charge each of my units and force them to rout, before one of them reached the center of the town.

I'll take that honor. I regularly lose against the AI on Medium!

Enemy generals seem to stay away from the battle until they're about to lose(for me).

I once was making a last stand against a Fatimid stack with one unit of Canons of the Holy Sepulcher, i decimated their few units of infantry while their general stood on some hill watching, then charged my Canons when they were down to about 69 men. Their charge barely did anything, but after they remained engaged in melee combat, my Canons were destroyed in about 40 seconds.

Perhaps you misunderstood, I was the one who lost.
