Default [RS 2.0] Minor Trait Modification Mod for Rome

    Introduction:

This minor modification I'm about to introduce basically stems from a variety of discussions on these following two threads that are located here and here. So a big thanks to Tone and Jon Arbuckle for showing me the steps on how to make this minor modification.

What's Modified in this Trait File:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. All Cursus Honorum and Military Career traits (Tribunis, Legatus, Quaestor, Consul, Praetor, etc..) will now appear on the side notification if the character gains these traits in the beginning of each turn.
    2. The Political General Trait, decreased the chance for your characters to acquire it to a 15% chance instead of the original 30% chance it had.
    3. Made the Legatus and Legatus Legionis traits available to your Pre-Marian characters, as originally and most likely for historical reasons, the Legatus and Legatus Legionis traits are only available post-marian, however, what happens is it leaves your pre-marian generals pretty weak, and perhaps kills your RP aspirations in the early game if you play like that.

    Instructions:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. open the Trait Modification.zip file and inside you will find two files. Extract the export_descr_character_traits.txt file to your "Play_Rome/Data" Folder in your RTW Directory.
    2. A back-up, descr_character_traits_original.txt is included within the zip file in case you wish to revert back to it for whatever reason. Just be sure to remove the "_original" part of it, then overwrite the modified folder.
    3. This is save_game compatible, however, I would recommend before playing, after the new trait file is installed, simply create a new save to denote that going forward is when you started using the modified trait file. This way, if for some reason something unexplained happens, your game is not a total loss, and you can at least go back to the save before you had the modified trait file. (Naturally, make sure you restore your backup before rolling back to your older save)

    Final Thoughts:

This is nothing major, and it's only a temporary thing that could be used till Patch1 comes out. It's also more for RP centric players who really like to track their characters, and all that fun stuff. As more time goes by, and if Patch1 is still not out, I may also include additional traits to appear on the side notification window as well, but for now I think this is a good start for everyone who wishes to try it. However please use at your own desecration, if this is something that doesn't really bother you, and you prefer to wait till Patch1 comes out, then please do. In fact, as mentioned already, Patch1 will probably have these fixes and even better modification to the trait system in general, so my changes will be absolute by then.

    Enjoy

Nicely done! Do we need to start a new game for it to take effect?

thanks for the support everyone, hope you guys enjoy it

Edit: Also just a note, concerning the Legatus and Legatus Legionis traits. The moment you install this mod, you may see some sudden jumps on some characters who were Tribunis to Legatus Legionis in the beginning of your next turn, however, do not worry about that, and here's the explanation from Tone himself on that:

What's happening is that those generals I'm sure had reached the correct level on the Patrician_Military_Tree trait which is hidden and just works as a counter (there are loads of hidden traits that count things) in the background so when you removed the need for the Marian reforms to have happened then it all worked well.
So hope that explains it if you do encounter that sudden jump on some of your characters.

    Edit2:
Also, if for some reason you remove the trait file because you don't like it, and restore the original one, keep in mind that you will still see some Generals with the Legatus or Legatus Legionis trait if they already had it, as it won't remove that trait from the character, however, any further characters will not get that trait till the after the Marian reforms. Which is why it's very important, that if you want to revert back to your original trait file, perhaps it may also be best to revert back to the save before you started using the modified trait file.

Also I will leave this as an open forum to you guys, but what kind of other traits would you like to see on the side-bar notification? I mean there are so many, that I can probably focus at a few a time based on the consensus here whenever I do go that route and wanna add more there. In the end, keep in mind that this mod shall and always will be Rome centric, sorry but just don't have the time to really look at the other factions and all.

Should be no more edits for the day, as that's all I can think of

or which lines should i copy and include into the 1 Turn descr_character_traits file if i want do this for myself?

Marcus Antonius> Caesar has many more legions than the Thirteenth
Scipio>Yes, on the far side of the Alps
Marcus Antonius> Winter does not last forever. Spring comes. Snows melt.
    Scipio>That is a threat!
Marcus Antonius> No, I assure you, that is no threat. Snows always melt.

This can be totally usable in a 1 turn Roman Campaign as all you would need do is overwrite the trait file for the 1 turn campaign with mine in the "Play_One_Turn" folder. I would however to be on the safe side, back-up your trait file in the one_turn folder just in case.

Awesome sub-mod! - Tiny question, is it possible to delay the minion trait being added until you invade the Greek homeland or 1 of there cities? If not, how do i completely remove it from the game?

While I'm starting to understand traits in general, I'm nowhere near as fluent as the devs for this, so something like that I couldn't help you with.

On a side note I don't even think something like that would be save-game compatible anyway, because if you remove the trait completely within the file, it won't remove the traits for characters who already have it in your game, so it may cause CTDs.

You can lover trigger chance to very low or you can modify trait effects given like i did with political general trait.

General question to everyone, but speaking of the Political General trait, how often is happening in your games using my modified trait file?

Still way to much? Just Right? or Never Happens now?

Curious on that, as I'm thinking on further modifying that further depending on the feedback here, to have lower chances the higher you go up in the Cursus Honorum. As a result this is to show, that since you most likely will have the senate's backing when leading the army, you could have good commanders under you that do the job, but naturally there's still a chance it could happen.

So overall I was thinking of keeping the 15% chance for Questor's and Aedile's, 10% Chance for Praetor's and Propraetor's, and finally 5% chance for Consul's and Proconsul's.

But again it's going to be all based on the feedback. Overall, I probably don't plan to make any radical changes till I see what Patch 2.1 offers for the trait files since it looks like it's going to be modified a lot.

Again glad your enjoying this simple mod

Ahhh darn! ;/ I understand the thought behind most traits, as in the cause of them, but i have no idea what triggers the minion trait, it always comes out of the blue So my only option is to manually remove the trait by command line and edit a file to stop the trait from appearing?

Again great mod btw, enjoying it in my campaign at the moment

thanks again everyone for the compliments glad your enjoying a simple, yet un-complicated mod ..

Do keep in mind, as time goes on, and if Patch1 is still not out, I'll be considering further expanding upon this at least in terms of the side notification windows to show more of the traits there in the game.

So overall, I'll leave that to you guys, what would you prefer in terms of what character traits should truly appear on the side notification. (Like Good Farmer, Economic Depression, etc..)
