Default American/European Rivalry, and why it's so funny.

I've been wondering lately, why is there a big rivalry between Europe and America?

I honostley don't know the answer, but one thing is for certain, Americans are the new Commies for the Europeans and the Europeans are the new French people for the Americans.

The entire US roxors Europe argument is funny, but then again so is EU will destroy the US by 2009!!!

What's even more funny, is the fact that one nation is set against an entire continent......

It's just friends teasing each other. (Or an elderly couple quarreling all the time).
(Besides wasn't there once a thread about how the US would win when invading Europe - and of course how Europeans would push them back into the sea, depending on who posted. At least this kind of things stopped).

Nah, it's more like an old dude with split-personality-disorder arguing with a strangely conservative Emo teenager who broke his window whilst playing some game called "Bases' ball".

Simply cause I'm bored, I came here. I read this topic. So now I'll leave you with an interesting fact. Not counting Russia (the European part), the United States of America has more land area than all of the European nations combined. >_>

Gee are you sure? I really wasn't aware of that...

Another fun fact, Montana is larger than the country I live in, but has a lower population number than the city I live in.

Being born in Montana and planning on moving back there next spring, I have to wiegh in here. Some here in California ask, "Why are you moving to Montana? There's nobody there." My reply, "EXACTLY!"

San Francisco (where I live now) population, 1 Million.

    Bay Area population, 5 Million.

Montana population, 800 Thousand. But that doesn't count all the cows and GRIZZLY BEARS!!!

Anyway, on topic, I think Erik hit the nail on the head. Everyone always gangs up on the Big Dog.

    Might I add, though.... WOOF!

Oh yea? Well, you aren't counting the grizzly bears, the moose, the elk, the bison, the deer and the antelopes. :tooth:

(What country do you live in?)

    Montana land area=145,552 square miles
    Montana population (estimate)=935,670
Persons per square miles in Montana=(approx) 6.43

    Isnt that a bit low.
In Holland our province with highest population pre sqaure kilometer is South-Holland
    It has 2818 km²
    A 3.452.323 high population
That Is 1225 inhabitans per km²

    Much higher than Montana.
I live In the Netherlands BTW

PS the province with the lowest population per square kilometer Is Frisia with 191 inhabitans per square mile.

With the difference that commies never were as bad in the eyes of Europeans as they were for the Americans.
But I definately agree with you. There's an almost irrational loathing between Americans an Europeans, and if I'm totally honest, I admit that I'm guilty of it as well, though I DO try to avoid mindless bashing and remain critical of it.

What's even more funny, is the fact that one nation is set against an entire continent......
This, on the other hand, is total bull. Take a look at a map. Europe as a continent isn't at all larger than the US as a country.
And this seems to go straight against what you said before. First you say how ridiculous the rivalry between Europe and the US is, and then you say: "It's their fault, because it's our tiny nation against your huge continent!" At least, this is how I perceive this comment.

@Erik: I love your sig. Great Britain seems to have fallen off the map though. Shouldn't they be floating in the middle, not knowing who to choose?
"I live in a flat with several muslims and not one of them has ever blown himself up, not even once!" - Erik.
This is a very true comment and to go completely off-topic, recently I saw a student of Islamic origin wearing his schoolbag with "Dit is geen verdachte rugzak!" written on it.

Meh, I consider myself British/English, not European, so the map suits me

    Seconded with pride, old chap!

I consider myself English and European - I don't see how you could consider yourself not European, seeing you're on the same tectonic plate.
I may be technically a European in the sense that I'm on the same tectonic plate, but aside from that I'm no more European than our American counterparts!

We can thank the neo-cons for that.

But a couple of ears ago I went on holiday in Russia with my mother.
And she told me it was very strange for her to just in the subway surrounded by Russians because she was always told how evil and violent they where.
At first she was even scared of them! (normal guys traveling to their jobs)
This just shows how powerfull the anti-Russian propaganda was, even in Europe.

I didn't make it myself, I got it from a strongly anti-European website and thought it was funny (http://www.taemag.com/). It's actually the cover of their magazine.

    That's funny.
