    Default Pesky DoW problem again

I've noticed that an old problem with the AI has resurfaced in SS 6.3. This had been fixed in some of M2TW official patches, and wasn't an issue in 6.1. I refer to every silly single ship that can reach your coasts declaring war on you by blockading one your ports.

As England, I am currently at war with Scotland, Leon, Portugal, Moors, Venice, Genoa, Fatimids and Denmark. There is no land conflict with any of them, not even Scotland has made a move. It has all been single shippies blockading my ports on a whim.

I'm using Savage's AI, which is the same I used in 6.1, but I didn't have this problem there. It's an annoyance.

I have not seen this issue. Using SavageAI on Hard. In fact I've hardly ever been blockaded at all.

I have the feeling that the AI both has a 'strategic' and 'local' component.

So the strategic AI says "I'm interested in peace with neighbour faction X" but then the local AI looks at each unit in turn and asks "What useful things can this unit do this turn?" And on the list of useful things for a fleet is to blockade ports. So it blockades your port which causes war, and next turn, the strategic AI says "Oh dear, seems a war started with faction x. Better ask for peace because that's my priority".

And next turn, the fleet thinks "I'm a ship, and there's a port, I'll go blockade".

    Etc.

Same logic probably applies to diplomats who courtsey your cities and armies every turn without opening negotiations.
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.

Often, I think they're trying to bribe them.
In one campaign I did as the Cumans, a Kwarezm diplomat kept standing outside Jaiksk.
He stood there for several turns, and suddenly I got a notif that the settlement had been bribed.

I really do hate the starting of wars that way. No matter what I do, factions just keep desiding the most logical thing for them to do, regardless of how much power I have, is to blockaid my ports and start a war. The Fatamids did that all the time in my Roman campaign. Then they sued for peace the next turn all the time and I was able to get huge amounts of money by demanding tribute for peace, it really is the only problem on the campaign map that seriously bugs me. And yes, the diplomats are always trying to bribe you, like previously stated, the AI sees it has a dimplomat, doesnt have enough intelligence to open up relations, and just sit at a settlement trying to bribe untill the AI gets the rare spark of genious and moves him

I've started having this problem too in the latest RR/RC, and I didn't have it before. I reported it in the Bugs thread in the sub-forum, but it seems dead. Nobody posts there anymore.

I was Norway, and I got blockaded by a Venetian ship in the Baltic.

I know what you mean with the blockading thing I remember it being massively annoying in vanilla when you go round getting all your alliances and then one blockades your port and everyone breaks alliance with you. I must say though I am on my 4th VH/VH campaign on 6.3 with savage AI and this hasn't happened unless I am at war with the faction except once as England I owned cairo and in the small see (arabian I think) the fatimids always did it.

Saying that though I think the fatimids are either very war like or a little bit broken in the campaign as all the other factions seem to behave how you would expect except them who attack then accept peace then attack and repeat several hundred times as England I wiped them out because they annoyed me so much.

The diplomat thing now I do get that and bizzarely enough it is often allies doing it, none have ever succesfully bribed my settlements though. I think this problem is due to the AI having loads of spare money and their not being a relations or reputation penalty for a failed bribe from what I can see you only get these penalties if you succeed but surely if france try to bribe an english governor and he refuses he would let his king know about it might be an easy fix to add a penalty for this. What do you modders think?
