Default Star Jelly & Blood rain, proof of Extraterrestrial life?

'Transpermia' the hypothesis that microbes may traverse space via celestial bodies and seed life between worlds.

I caught the later half of this 2010 documentary and wanted to know what your thoughts were. According to the various experts interviewed this stuff has no DNA, but greatly resembles living cell structure. Later on there appeared to be something that may contain DNA, but we have no way to read it. There is currently no evidence to support the conclusion the astral goo is extraterrestrial. Apparently reports of this phenomenon go back to "biblical times".

What do you think? Star jelly? or Frogs' Spawn?

It is possible. They’ve found evidence of amino acids and other organic chemicals in comets using spectral analysis. Until we find related bacteria somewhere out there we’ll never know for sure.
It doesn’t solve the problem of how you go from a few simple chemicals to self-replicating organisms though. It just moves the time and the place.

Well if they can show that these substances are not of terrestrial origin then I think it's a pretty considerable puzzle piece in the origin of life.

As Vizzla said, even if we find tiny cute little bacterias in asteroids or that star jelly, there is still as far as I know no way to fill the gap that represents the change from simple straings of amynoacids into living organisms.

Is the belief supposed to be that it's somehow more conducive to the creation of these chemicals and maybe life itself in outer space?

I don't think it's extraterrestrial. In this video they note that they found 2 known highly infectious bacteria in the jelly. Doesn't exactly rule out an extraterrestrial origin, but it seems incredibly unlikely that these two species of bacteria that exist on Earth just happened to also be on a meteor or comet floating around in space.

Because those bacteria are found pretty much everywhere on earth. I would think their presence speaks more of likely contamination than of the substance's origin. Nostoc is a very good possibility and weirder things have been swept up into rain clouds.

The thing is we don't know.

Maybe the bacteria came from spaces years ago, as an alien attack?

The thing is that supposedly no life can grow in space. I think there is no way to tell if the bacterias we find in those asteroids are from here or from outside.

Mmm, but how do we know that if the bacterias colonized the asteroid after it landed/crashed into earth? I think, we dont have a clear way of knowing this.

I think they need to find a way to read the DNA that would tell us if it matches anything on earth. I can't recall the reason they were unable to see the DNA in those little balls found within the jelly.
