Default Is Medieval II supposed to run OK on Windows 7 64-bit?

    Good day folks,

I recently installed MII:TW on my 64-bit Windows 7 system to try and resume the Russia campaign I began and was AAR'ing too ("The Rise of the Rus"), and all goes well except after a while on the campaign map the cursor point of my mouse disappears and becomes almost invisible.

Was just wondering if that's normal and if MII:TW has been known to have incompatibility issues of any type under this particular setup.

    Cheers

Wait Wait, you don't have dual monitors enabled by any chance? (Yeah I know it's a longshot)

No problems here (touch wood and lucky rabbits foot etc) on my W7 64 bit system. Maybe its a graphics or DX issue as others have indicated?

Never had the disappearing mouse problem, but I do recall having a mouse problem on an old XP system whereby the mouse cursor would sometimes change into a 'cricket wicket'..a few weird vertical lines.
A peek around the technical help forums might turn something up..usually plenty of top tips and helpful advice to be had.

Windows 7 uses DX11 and this game is based on DX9. Make sure u have Updated your DX9 drivers.

btw i also use it and i have no problems but updating of DX9 is essential.

It certainly isn't the case of a bad graphics card since it's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 with 512MB dedicated RAM. Were you suggesting that there may be something wrong with my card?

Hate to say the same thing twice but those DxDiag reports would be REALLY helpful.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you update DX9 in Windows7?

There is no auto update for it in windows u have to download the Windows 7 compatible latest version drivers for DX9.0c from Microsoft.

Irisheagle, sorry to have taken so long to reply to your request. Here is my DxDiag.txt attached. I hope that can clear up anything that may be wrong?

Also, I have DirectX 11 on my system: should I still go for a DirectX 9 update from Microsoft for Windows 7 anyway?

For dx9, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en as the game requires it.

For mouse cursor disappearing, do you have mouse trails enabled?

No, I don't Irishron. I have now downloaded your DirectX 9 which I hope won't interfere with my 11...*fingers crossed*

    Dx11 won't even know it's there.

There was an error with the installation of this DX9 which reads the following: "A Cabinet file needed for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid" whatever that means ?!?

Meanwhile as I reopened my Medieval II: Total War for the first time in a while I noticed that the game had somehow reverted to default settings (i.e. before you actually load it for the first time, which I had clearly already done) and that all my savegames were gone, including my epic Russian campaign that took many, MANY hours to accomplish and was in the year 1250 or something thereabouts. I am (quite understandably) miffed and perturbed by this recent turn of events. Has this ever happened to anyone here? Is it a known bug for all your savegames to just magically and from what it would appear of their own volition disappear from the folder?

    :/
