Re: failed to open sound database
Did you change files of EB recently or installed any submods, did you upgrade your drivers or install a new card?
1. Check if Vanilla crashes too. If yes, install the version of your sound-drivers delivered with your PC/laptop.
2. If Vanilla runs without problems, run validateInstallation.bat found in your RTW folder and post your results here.

Re: failed to open sound database
Reinstalled RTW + patch 1.3 + BI +patch 1.5. (previous had patch 1.6 and alexander installed....does it give a problem???).
Installed java.
Can start game but crashes when i want to start campaign, yes disabled movies.
Did run the validateinstallation and says i have no original installation what is incorrect cause i installed and played numberous times/mods.
The game i have is one of the first releases i bought,....don't think that's an issue.
Vanilla versions of BI and RTW works just fine....played couple of turns to test.
Installed 1.1Full, all fixes of 1.1, installed 1.2 and all fixes of 1.2.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: failed to open sound database
Hhmmm, seems ok in the first look, but please answer my question about the drivers, if EB worked before you changed something in your system and it now doesn't work anymore, make a roll-back.
In any other case, please open preferences.txt found in \EB\preferences\ and search for the line:
AUDIO_3D_PROVIDER:
What value is written in your file?
