    Default Windows 7 issue

    Hello,
I've searched all windows 7-help topics but havent been able to fix my problem, so I'l have to start a topic of my own I'm afraid.

Before you read this, please note I have zero computer skills so when you explain something to me pretend I'm a 10 year old or something.

    - I've installed the newest kindoms patch, and the most recent BC, but the game keeps failing on me. I've got this problem with ALL MODS I've downloaded, even though they're all working on my old (Windows XP) computer, so it múst have something to do with my new windows 7 pc.

Please take a look at the screenshot I've added and help me out! I'm dying to play this game again. When I start the game I get a pop-up that lasts for about half a second, and then it's gone. The fact that it's only there for so short a time explains my mediocre screenshot.

I think the main source of your problem is directory where you installed the game.

You shouldn't install games in "Program Files", because Windows Vista and Windows 7 security is quite tight and makes such interference like installation of a mod difficult.

The reasonable remedy is one: you need to uninstall all mods and M2TW and install them outside "Program Files", e.g. in "C:/My Games" folder.

Well, you need to uninstall TATW too, if you want to have it working with you new (outside "Program Files") installation of M2TW.

Also, when you will be installing the game and mods - use right-click and "Run as Administrator" rather than double left-click to run installators.

It took me 1,5 hours to reinstal everything and unfortunately it didn't work. I've even lost my Third Age mod in the process.

I haven't read your second post before I reinstalled the games, and since I've got nothing to lose anymore I'll just uninstal en reinstal them again, and right click (run as admin) instead of double left click.

Since I know little about all these things, could you maybe tell me exáctly what to do? Babystep by step?

    I really appreciate your help,
    Rob.

have your computer downgraded to windows vista, Windows 7 is a pain in the ass .... I myself reinstalled my computer with Vista to enjoy BC and TA.

It is the most simple solution, provided you pay someone to do it for you or kidnap some geeky teen

Firstly, and I've just realized it, try to just reinstall BC and install it into your main "Medieval II Total War" directory (outside Program Files, of course).

BC doesn't work from "mods" folder, and I've just noticed you had it installed in "Medieval II Total War/mods". This could be another reason your BC didn't and doesn't work (if you have it there).

    Installation instructions are very simple:
    1. Install (outside Program Files and using "Run as Administrator" option - don't use "Autorun") M2TW and Kingdoms addition (the latter will update M2TW to 1.3) and patch it to 1.5.
    2. Install mods into proper location (different mods have different custom directories, BC has it in main M2TW folder; on your screenshot it would be "Medieval II Total War" NOT "Medieval II Total War/mods"!

Dude you've made my day/week/month. Apparently the folders where indeed the problem, as you said. I've installed Medieval II TW and Kingdoms outside of 'Program Files'(C:\Games\SEGA) and installed Broken Crescent outside 'mods' and everything works great. Didn't evne have ot run anything as administrator.

Thank you so much for your help!
