    Default Explosive Ammo for cannons

Anyone uses them? I don't: cannons usually misses the target and hit it only with the cannonball's bounce on the terrain, while explosive shots almost everytime misses. When the target is near enough to be able to hit it for sure, Grapeshots are way more devastating.

I wouldn't know what to do without them on field battles though, cannonballs don't care whether the enemy is a lousy marauder or an elite Khornate Berzerker hence they're great at making Chaos lose its key units early on during the battle.

=OOO why didn't I think of that. To top it off, you could place some stakes in front of the siege engine before the start to make cavalry suffer a little bit, right?. Would suck if infantry charged right away though...

I'm not sure, but from my own experiences M2 Ai can't handle stakes in settlements. Propably they would blindly rush theyr cavalry in it, which would feel a bit unfair imo.. But effective, yes

I use artillery in battle, they looks good and kills a good amount of enemies. BTW i raised the range of all artilleries, the old one it seemed a little short to me.

Anyway, where you use cannons is not the original question.

The question is: do you ever use explosive ammo instead of normale ones or grapeshots?

I've modified nearly all unit stats too. As for cannons I never, ever use them. If you want a city wait 10 turns for it to fall. You'll have less casualties and you can support your troops. An army full of swordsmen or dwarfs is different though. However I believe explosive rounds are better. Cannons will never hit a thing. But if they do you want the impact to be big. So in a 7-8 minute battle your cannons will hit once maybe twice and you want to take as many men with the shots as you can. So in other words don't take cannons and use pistoliers instead.

With explosive ammo you will hit only 2-3 times in a battle, if you are lucky enough. With normal ammo i usually fire half the ammo and kill around 100 or more enemies because the bouncing cannonball pass through more than one enemy unit.

Waiting for a city to fall is useful in certain cases, and not good in other. A heavy fortified city will take a ton of turns to surrender and sometimes you need that city earlier than that. Also, is good to always have armies on the move during a war, not waiting passively for too many turns.

Hmmm, does the explosive ammo make more damage to walls?

And I usually use normal/grape shots. Explosive ammos tought look good on impact.

I hardly think that. Esplosive ammo are based on shrapnel and heat damage, walls would be almost uneffected. Walls suffers from direct heavy hit. I think "modern" esplosive ammo would be best against walls, but the Warhammer ones are based on shrapnel.

I personally prefer Mortars, they are effective in defence of city ( find a highest spot , and wait for the right moment, the effect is always decent ) , in siege , in battle attack/defence . Theyre main advantage ( in my oopinion ) is that they do not require line of sight, and can be put behind your lines, whyle in most of battles if battlefield does not consist of hills, and is plain, then normal artillery cannons have a problem , yes they can shoot, but you will need to hide them as soon as enemy approaches, and after try to monuver them around in order to get a good shooting spot and that takes time. But mortars are more of a "friendly" type of artillery, place them behind your lines, disable automatic shooting , and controll them , attack generals , reinforcements, retreating units, works great and also demorolises the enemy.

Yes, they are great. Always have a Mortar unit at hand

Why is there explosive ammo in the first place? "Real Warhammer" as a title had me thinking this was lore-based or something, which, if you follow correctly, all cannons in Warhammer Fantasy fire either solid shot or grapeshot. There just isnt any mention of explosive shot, and to add evidence, explosive artillery is supposed to be revolutionary technology fielded only in experimental Empire Hellstorm Rocket Batteries.

Well, Real Warhammer isn't exactly lore based, its called Real Warhammer because it implements Real Combat and Real Recruitment into it.
