As Hungary, on the fifth turn in early era, the Byzantines sieged two of my cities, each with a three full units of Scholarioi plus one unit of that really heavily armored infantry.

I thought Scholarioi wasn't recruitable until after some really late event. Is something wrong with the code? Seriously, the Byzantines can wipe my whole nation out just with those units, without any reinforcements or retraining.

If they're sieging you, shouldn't be too difficult. Let them breach your walls and run into a full unit of Spearmen.

Careful what you say about the Byzantines. A lot of kids here will get their feelings hurt.

Byzantines get a few of them as starting units, they get siphonates as starting unit too, flame throwing guys

no idea where the third unit came from, but they do start off with two of the scholarii and one of em sparthii, although back in 6.2 rr/rc i got 3 extra units of scholarii as a reward for a mission xD

Scholarii aka Cataphracts from RTW aka Kataphracts from vanilla? They're cav, in siege they are useless. But the Scutatoi (heavy spearmen) are very dangerous.
