    Default The order of units

how do u change the order of the units on the campaign map without having to take them out of a stack, putting them in order and put them back?

ie. this is my unit composition

    general - hastati - hastati - equites - triarii - velites - velites - principes - equites - principes
    (u get the idea)
now how do i turn that (above) into this (below) without having to move any units back and forth?

    general - equites - equites - hastati - hastati - principes - principes - triarii - velites - velites
i notice on some AAR's that when they engage an army, they will show what units are in their army and what units are in the enemies army.

an example of what im talking about: notice the unit composition of the army, see how they are in order and everything.

btw the source for the pic is from page 5 of:

I don't know if it's possible in vanilla. To my knowledge the units are displayed in the order they entered the army in. To rearrange them you take them out and put them back in AFAIK.

No, it's possible ... I just don't remember how (as I don't care enough most of the time). *digs out manual*

Edit:  No help there, and messing around in a quick new game didn't help any. I'm fairly certain I've done it without picking units out and then merging the armies, but I don't remember how.

I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

I don't think it's possible other than the way Genius mentioned by leaving and reentering etc.

@Entropy Judge - could be you've done it but then it may have been on the battle map, where it is somehow possible over grouping
units or in the recruitment queue, where you can drag units to the position you want them to be in the queue.

Haven't played alone in ages, but if you use ctrl click in the order you want then to be in and then press group twice, they should rearrange themselves in the order in which you have selected them, and then retain that order.

i know that the unit order applies to the battle where u select, for example, 3 equites that are spaced out in the army flag and group then ungroup them. but will it work for the campaign map portion of rtw? cause i know that if u select the units on the campaign map and drag them, the units cascade on top of each other (the unit cards are on top of each other but they are slightly diagonal to the previous unit so that u can see them) and so far, it hasnt done anything other than move the unit outside of the army card on the campaign map.

And to my experience it will not do anything else than that.

It's one of those engine limitations which were let's say not important enough so that too many
people did complain about it to be fixed since it doesn't have any effect on your army or campaign
    other than eyecandy.

It can easily be worked around by simply moving your army a click further into the direction you
want them by the suggestions already being mentioned.

Maybe you could also save your campaing at this point and edit the order of units somewhere in
    your save-files.
