Help me develop my book.

I'm going to be writing a fictional book set in modern times and the plot is:

North Korea find a reason to start an invasion on South Korea Which prompts NATO to intervene by sending Troops from Europe and the US to South Korea, Whilst the North Koreans seal an alliance with China and Japan and both sides trying to get Russia’s support with the Russian government planning on supporting NATO but Russian High ranking General’s will try to give North Korea nuclear arms.

Now I will be putting alot of research in the nations involved to see how they would realistically react in this situation.

So for now I would like your opinion on this plot also a quick question after I have finished writing this novel how would I go about getting it published?

I hate to be a Debbie-downer, but REALLY? Aren't you putting the cart ahead of the horse a bit here? Thinking about publishing? Be realistic. You plan on writing a book, in a over played genre which is supersaturating the market at present and you are thinking about publishing already?

Write the book in your spare time, pass it among friends and colleagues and THEN start looking for an agent that can represent you to the publishing houses.

Also, Japan siding with North Korea? LOL, hopefully you have a very clever plot element planned that would make Japan turn against the worlds most powerful nation that has over 30,000 military personnel stationed in the country.

Dont worry I have. I have also written short stories before which my mates all thought were really good.

That sounds like a Tom Clancy scenario.
Set it a bit further into the future, so you can that blocks developed and tensions built up in the meantime. Also, get Japan to remain an American ally, it just doesn't make any sense if they don't.

Well, if a rebel anti-american faction, tired of american occupation (something that is growing within Japan today) seizes control it could work. It would mean the destruction of the nation (there are 17,000 marines in Japan right now), but it could happen.

Nice ideas keep it up as about the future date would 2015-2020 be reasonable or is it to soon? Did I mention im a big fan of Tom clancy books?

Id say same thing and write the thing before worrying about publishing but a question, what on earth would make Japan side with North Korea? Hell China for that matter too considering it has more to lose vs support of NK.

Too soon imo to flip Japan to side with NK and for China to risk it. Think you'd have to stretch it 2050-2075 just imo...enough time to reasonable show nations catching/surpassing the US providing a more equal footing of nations and hence tension.

Ok if I put it at 2050-2075 How realistically would you think the militaries would be like then with equipment and tanks ans such?

Electronic warfare/terrorism would be considered pretty normal by that time. I think you can pretty much rule out tactical nukes. Maybe you can think about the colinization of our solar system ? As a reader, I'd find it important for the background to be portrayed in a credible way.

If you really wanted to do something realistic in 2015-2020 (to ensure you are up to speed with military tech which is very important in these kind of novels) I think you need drop the Japan thing. Indeed, even keep China out of it as well and use them as a politically neutral to the conflict country but supplying arms to the North Koreans in secret creating a proxy war with the US. You could create political factions within China that wish to engage in war openly with the US etc (although that would be suicide) to create tension. The scenario seems to me to require a lot of suspension of belief and you could end up having people loosing that suspension rather easily if the book is trying to remain realistic.

I like the idea of Godfrey of a new dawn of space colonising at it's birth and then if it's in the future I won't have to remain so strict to todays situations.

There are lots of prototypes and such nowadays concerning space colonisation. You might want to do some research on it. I also recommend Michio Kaku's books as possible guidance

You could do an international war for a new technology that can make the moon\mars*whichever you prefer* livable. Set in the year 2110 in which China has overtaken Japan and Korea, Russia has moved farther into europe and over taken several countries and the USA has taken over North America. With the 3 giants battling on earth for resources and the last few territories left while a small group invent the tech to satiate the powers into peace.
