In SS 6.1 if you didn't pay the 5,000 for protection against pirates you would get hit with a devasting 12,000 every few turns. It runied my genose game..I don't know if they fixed it in 6.3...I normally just pay it, although it's annoying.

I've been playing several campaigns never had any TR attacked... How do i get pirates to attack em?
It's a 'random event'.
If you don;t pay the 'insurance' then a lot of rebel fleets appear -which can be good if you're trying to improve your navy.
Not quite.
It's not entirely random - you need to have more than 75.000 florins in the bank.
It also doesn't spawn rebel fleets, but rather if declined have a 50% chance of you loosing 12.000 the next turn due to the pirates.
So, it's pay 5K and be done with it, or don't and face the 50% chance of loosing 12K.

In my current game playing the English I am getting hit with that trade routes attacked thing all the time..At turns 40, 41, 43, 45, and 46..I pay the darn thing but that's 25,000 gold down the drain....I don't mind it once in a while, but it's getting ridiculous. Would someone create a mod to turn the thing off, or make it a reasonable once every 10 turns.
It's supposed to only have less than 10% chance to happen, but as with most negative things in this game, 10% chance really means 90%;--- Pirates
