Default What i really like about this mod

You know what i am uterly satisfied and pleased with this mod besides the Uber revamped graphic system, someone took the trouble for making the secondary weapons of many spear units available in the mod, meaning that Triari, Spearmen, Hoplites, etc will now fight with swords either in close quarter combat or if ordered to do so with the ALT key and not just carry them for eyecandy in their waists (thumbs up for this ). THANK SUPERB JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Though, since the RTW engine is quite strange, some men of the phalanx will break formation and attack the enemy with swords. I use the alex.exe and sometimes, I just can't get my men to stay in their damn phalanx!

I believe that if you press "d" for defensive position of a unit (the one with the roman shield), they won't move from the formation that you've placed them in.

That can be risky. Defensive mode means that the whole unit always try to remain facing the same direction - to present a defensive front to the enemy.
Unfortunately, since the .exe is retarded, sometimes that means that the unit will present a defensive front in the wrong direction.

If you don't keep an eye on a battle line set to guard mode, you'll suddenly notice that a unit has been completely crushed, at a far quicker rate than those around it - and it's always because the unit has turned side-on to the battle line, for no apparent reason.

I wondered why my hoplites where fighting with swords and not their spears. You say alt key + right click makes them fight with swords?
Yep, or just double click to charge and enemy and they'll charge with swords, if you normal attack (single right click) they'll go back to spears if they're not too pressed in melee.

    1. RS2 looks awesome - easy to get distracted.

    2. I'm usually not looking at the terrain, but conducting cavalry and skirmisher manoeuvres. If you don't babysit them, then cav can get themselves bogged down and killed, and missile troops can waste their ammo on stupid targets, or go on friendly fire sprees.

I don't want to have to micro-manage the heavy inf as well.

I love that the red box around the battlefield has been removed, we now have a beautiful rolling landscape in which to slaughter the enemy.

Exactly! It was confusing a bit at first because I was used to a red box lol.

As for the spear/sword discussion, I didn't think about it until now... Didn't even notice haha.

I'd rather my hoplites fight as hoplites, not swordsmen. Maybe someone will upload an edited DMB (I think that's the file) with swords removed from hoplites for those of us who feel this way.

And I don't like guard mode for the reason put forth by Dekker.

Well, it's a good thing most Diadochi Factions have allied rosters with great offensive attack! (Like the Argyapsides, Thacian Rhomphadumdum (god I love saying that!) and Thorikotai Argyapsides)
