    Default An idea

Following sbroadband's topic, it occurred to me it might be a lot of fun to continue the game of someone else. In other words, if you have an interesting and challenging campaign (or even if the $hit already hit the fan and it's hopeless), save the game, attach your save and see how other people would take it from there.

When you are writing a post, under additional Options there is a place to Manage Attachments. Make sure to put the save file into a zip file, other wise the forum will reject it.

It'd be interesting to see what kind of strategic exercises if any get posted.

As to sub-mods, the varying number of them out there would make it difficult for some, especially if someone is running an 'unique' setup. It'll be important that people clearly note which version they are playing.

I play my own monstrous amalgamation of 6.2 and sub-mods, so I doubt I'll be able to do this. Still, it's an interesting idea, and withfriend2 has an Emperor-worthy sig.

    I'll give it a try: Kwarezm, 1233, VH/VH

Mod: SS 6.3, Gracul AI, Dynamical Siege Upkeep, Faster Turn Time 3.1, Istanople, Meneth's Mongol Horde

edit: This is an autosave so the file has to be renamed to "Autosave.sav". I can't save regular saves.

People will probably be more interested if you add some back-story, and maybe a screenshot or two.

Good point, I'll add screenshots later today.

I've started by trading most of the towns to the Mongols for (lots of) money on turn 2. They were going to fall anyway but strangely enough they were quite happy to pay 80,000+ for 8 cities. The money were crucial because it would delay the inevitable debt for 10+ turns. Even more interesting, if they own the relevant cities on turn 2, they don't spawn new armies around!

Right off the bat I moved the capital to Alamut, sent an army across the Persian gulf to sweep the rebel settlements on its eastern coast, another one on a jihad to Baghdad and yet another one off in the general direction of Tmutarakan. One full stack stayed (and still stays) 24/7 in both Damghan and Alamut, one stack hiding around Ugrench, the rest of the army was scattered hiding in forests around my former cities. Whenever Damghan was attacked, I sallied out, destroyed the trebuchets and then just waited out the timer, thinning their HAs out from the walls.

When they started to loosen the pressure, the hiding armies moved out of the shadows, avoided conflict with their main stacks at all cost and recaptured the half-empty cities.

The 2 500-pound gorillas in the room are:

    - 2-3 full stacks of blood-thirsty Mongols are still roaming around; up till now I kept them busy running back and forth
    - on the next turn after this save, the money will plunge down to -9000ish

My current plan is to somehow push West of Tmutarakan once money get better.

Which are interchangeable? Like if I currently play with savage and try to load a game with Gracul. Would that work?

    AI is inter-changeable.
Anything that changes the campaign script or descr_strat doesn't matter.
What can cause problems, however, are ancillary, trait, and name modifications.

I was under the impression that campaign_script is only read at the start of a campaign. Ancillaries and traits can be changed.

What I meant is that it can be changed without breaking the save (since that's what I think the guy was asking), not that it applied.
Ancillaries and traits can be changed.
Which is why it can cause problems. Not exactly sure what happens when a trait is missing, but CTD is pretty likely.

A few pictures from the campaign:

    Turn 2: Settlements sold

Turn 6: Assassinated Faction Heir, Khiva empty

Turn 14: Caught the Great Khan napping in Ugrench
