Default Best Place to Defend Gondor is...

My first attempt at a poll. Where do you think is the best place to defend Gondor while you build up your nation and better units. Im voting for East Osg. sure the bridge is a good killing field but why not have walls , the free unit upkeep and income that a city can give you. East beats West only because Id rather have West as a unit maker, retraining facility and the income from city and the free upkeep as well. Minas morgul, yeah sure we would all like to be there blocking Mordor off ASAP but with harad coming up from the south, the Black gate spilling orcs in the lands behind you it isnt that good a place to put your one and only decent early game army, you will need to leave troops either on the bridge to the north or back in East Osg. as a mid game target it is a must but.

I defended the bridge for ages but the real threat is Harad they are much more powerful with better units then Mordor! and also mordor can get trebuchetes and catapults that kill all your people defending the other side of the bridge all standing realy close together

Minas Morgol by far. You narrow Mordors attack to the north, and Minas Morgol is a fantastic place to defend with Farimir and a few rangers and heavy infantry. The layout allows for great defence.

Either bridge or minas morgul are the two best choices

for harad, you defend at Linhir, gather extra troops (Generals just sitting there as well) from all of the garrisons around gondor and send them to Linhir to defend against harad. Make sure to have atleast two units of archers to take down the low armoured armies of harad.

The best defending point is Minas Morgul, but when I have made so much progress that I can take it, I won't defend much longer, but march towards Barad Dur.

Against Harad I prefer a more mobile style of defence/attack anyway. The most important thing is good scouting: attack where you can, pull back if you must.

So though there is usually a period in a Gondor campaign where I have to defend Osgiliath/ Cair Andors repeatedly I would go with the last option.

I don't like bridge battles, so i prefere to fight in Ithilien and Minas Morgul's valley.

Ever since, when playing as Mordor, I instantly routed 2,000 Gondorian troops with a combined Nazgul/troll charge, that bridge has been one of my favorite places

Nothing beats the sight of 'Heroic victory' accompanied by 'you lost 64 units, killed 1,933 enemy'.

I haven't done anything similar with Gondor, but those spear chaps are pretty good at holding the line.

Ambush at Ithilien, and retreat to East Osgiliath

Keep the bridge, when the bridge is defended raid Umbar and the rest of Harad. When Mordor starts to get too many troll catapults, move the armies to Minas Morgul. Oh, and keep a half stack at Cair Andros, in my campaign the entire island was dotted with heroic victory signs, it's easy to defend castles

    I usually camp in osgiliath
i stock up a bunch of gondor spear units and ALOT of archers... i put them in the narrow street before the cities center and i just wait for the enemy to arrive...and when they do,the spear units are there to stop them while the masses of archers massacre them...i also usually bring up 2-3 cavelry and i attack them from behind and i cause them all to rout...

i definitely go with the last option. osgiliath bridge is only good for me for five turns. then its on to minas morgul and the ongoing battle of middle earth

E Osgilliath with Faramir, 1 fountain guard, free archer garrison, and a ballista when you can.
Reinforce bridge with minor general, 1 cav, 1 gondor militia, 2 more archers.
Light garrison will encourage immediate attacks, no waiting for extra siege weapons and armies. Let them in the gates, fire arrows down the straight narrow lane, Fountain guard keeps them out of town center. Cav is only for routers, and underdefended generals. Nazgul requires counter attack. Let Mordor pay to upgrade Minas Morgul for me. Only build archery range in W Osgilliath in case you decide to retreat before besieged.

East Osgiliath for sure, West as a gold mine and support and East as an unbeatable defense with a full stack ASAP.

Well if we are going off of realistic places, then the bridge between osgiliath's. Obviously if you can get to Minas Morgul than that is the best situation.

Both D and F at the same time. I do better at bringing the fight to my enemy. However, If I must, I use the bridge. I'm not a very good defender. Well, I am, but when I lose a sally out it makes things difficult to win. Most of the time I charge out of E. Osgiliath against overwhelming odds, kill as many as I can, and retreat. Then a reinforcement army finishes them in an autoresolve. The reinforcements are normally led by Boromir.

    I voted D though.

Unless you decide to be different and defeat Gondor's TRUE foe...the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. And also reclaim Eriador. And exterminate the Hobbits.
