Default Were/ or will I be able to recruit Byzantine elite units?

    Hi guys,

Having a cracking early campaign with 6.3 as the Byzantine! However I'm worried I wont be able to recruit there elite guards or varangian guard as the Constantinople is a town and not a castle....

Do I recruit these units from surrounding regions with castles? Or do I just get the units I start with at the begining of the campaign?

    Thanks in advance guys

Varangian Guards are from the city's Mayor's Palace and Scholarii and Siphonatores are from the imperial barracks which is already built.
Some units are tied to Lateran Council unless you use the No Waiting Mod by Newt

All are constantinipolitan, except varangoi who can be recruited in all cities with mayor palace, the wooden shield awordsmans at a high level baracks. After 1300 you can recruit italians mercenaries. In Constantinopole you recruit the SSS, siphonatores, scolari and spatari to Vasileos. In castles the mercenary buildings allow you scytion, latinikon and alemanoi.
