Any point in researching techonolgy as the Mughals?
So they don't get the bayonets, no square formation or anything else including fire by rank. What then is the point of researching these if they don't work except for getting new units?

Worth it for those Musketeers with the red hats and the heavy mongol cavalry. You're right though, Mughal units all use swords in melee (which imo beat bayonets anyway) and lack firing drills of any sort though it isn't a big deal as you just need to stretch your lines and their superior stats to common line infantry will make up for it. I don't know about square formation but if they lack that too then that is a weakness and you'll have to keep a few units of pikemen about to repel cavalry.
I recommend recruiting lots of dervishes early game as they wipe the floor with any unit once they get into melee. And the peasant rabble are pretty good too since despite their weak stats they have large numbers and are very cheap and can be pumped out across all your provences.
Hope that helped!
