    Default Alliance Bug

I've noticed this before but I forgot to make a post of it.

I'm running version 1.2 and I have a bug that seems to endure the entire campaign. I'm playing as KH & I eliminated Pontus at least 50 years ago or more. It's now year 167 B.C.

50 years ago Pontus was in an alliance with AS. Now Pontus is dead and AS still lives. However check the diplomacy & Pontus is not listed...well that's nice. But now all of a sudden AS gets into a tiff with another eastern faction (Pahlav) and all of a sudden on the next turn I get a diplomatic message that AS & Pontus break their alliance? Uhhh yeah...that was done over 50 years ago when I killed them! So why the message now?

I've noticed in other campaigns as well that living AI factions will still honor alliances or any diplomatic relations with an eliminated faction. What gives? Not to mention this puts a hamper on the diplomatic web throughout all factions because the human and/or other factions can't shift around diplomatically without the vacancy of an eliminated faction.

So is this a common problem? Can it be fixed? What causes this? Will this be a problem in EB II? How does one get around it if it can't be fixed?

    Thanks, Friends.

I know this problem has been addressed in XGM mod where you had a forced diplomacy thing to solve it. Perhaps this can be done in EB.

Its a RTW bug, I'm sure it could be fixed with a script to break any agreements a faction has once they are dead.

I doubt you need to do that though, from my experience it doesn't seem to affect game play.

But it does effect gameplay. I'll give you an example: If Pontus is allied with AS, I'm at war with Pontus & not AS, AS isn't at war with any other of my allies. Now with the bug this is what will happen: I or another faction will eliminate Pontus. Now in all reality I should now be able to forge an alliance with AS now that my war with their ally is over (due to elimination) & and that I & AS are not at war with any of each others allies. However because the bug allows AI factions to maintain their diplomatic stances with eliminated factions it makes it impossible to make that alliance. Thus effecting game play. That's what I mean by making it impossible for all factions AI & human to shift around diplomatically unless another war breaks out which breaks that "false" alliance.

@ Boriak: I also use FD minimod as well. How would I use this to get around the bug if it can't be fixed?

ALSO To anyone that can help me with a technical issue: How do I quote multiple excerpts from other peoples' replies in one post?

It happens for the war state? I've only ever seen the game do it with alliances.

The only way to fix it would be to write a script I'm afraid, which will have to be a fan project as we aren't working on EB any more.

I usually just copy the bit of text I want to quote, highlight it and then wrap it in quote tags by clicking the little speech bubble in the menu above where you type.

IIRC (it's been ... quite a long time since I've used it, as I tend to simply use the copy/paste method), you click the "Multiquote" button in all the posts you want to quote, then select the "Add Reply" button instead of Quoting someone. It should have all the Multiquoted posts in the reply box, although I don't remember if the order is based on post number or multiquote order.

I've had this happen before, it always gives me a chuckle. Intrestingly, I've also found Pontus to be the worst culprit for it.

@ Bobbin: I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what you mean By "War State" Bobbin. But just like I wrote it, is just like it goes down bro.

By "war state" I meant the diplomatic stance where the faction is at war with another, as opposed to being allied or at peace etc. If it happend exactly how you said it did then a faction can be "At War" with another even though its dead, stupid CA.

From what I've noticed the war state may not exist...but having lasting alliances despite a faction elimination is just as bad because it nearly produces the same results/effects. But if it's something that can be bypassed by the script that you guys do. By all means be aware of this and please act accordingly in regards to EB II. Keep up the good work. RESPECT!

OP why would u bother ?? You will end up in a war with everyone anyway

@ Canaris: First...what does "OP" mean?
And I don't think so. In regards to my example given...if I want an alliance with AS I should have one...regardless what the next turn's outcome is going to be. Also...it's less likely to be at war with a faction that isn't adjacent to yours.

OP = Original Poster. Similarly (just in case), TC = Topic Creator.
