Default What Happened to Haldir's Elves

    Hi Guys/Gals

In the movie "The Two Towers" a company of Elves comes to assist the Men of Rohan, but after Haldir dies it seems they disappear. Any ideas to where they went

Also why was Aragorn in command of the Elven units at Helms Deep? Haldir being hundreds of years old(possibly thousands) defending the borders of Caras Galadhon against orcs would be more exp than Aragorn... right?

    Thanks peeps

This was a stupid addition to the movie, and yes I don't know where they disappeared to either, I saw them running so they didn't all die...

can't really over think it due to it not being in the books

Stupid? It was a great change. It's brilliant, because it add epicness and at the same time some feeling of desperation in the movie. The Elves come to help the men, so there is still good and loyalty in the world and belief in the old alliance, but even together they don't have a chance to win.
    And that's good sceenwriting.

    No.

It was utterly nonsense in every way you look at it. The elves were fighting elsewhere, they could not spare so much elite archers, also they could never arrive at Helms Deep unnoticed or unharmed, neither so fast. By the way how could they know where Helm's Deep was, or that Rohan's forces were there?

Also, they completely ignored Dwarves, that fought as well in the war.

PJ is an elven fanboy, that's all.

    Then again, so was Tolkien.

Tolkien wrote a damn bible about WHY elves are so strong, but he still admit that in Third Age they are not as strong as they were. About them owning Balrogs, i remember that even in the past ages when they are far more powerful, it was Glorfindel to kill one of them, dying in the process. One of the greatest warriors of all times. Elves weren't superhumans even in that times.

LEgolas was probably the most powerful warrior of the Fellowship, mainly because of his centuries years of training, but nowhere is said anything even similar to what seen in the movies. Legolas is portraited as a very very skilled warrior, but not a freaking superhero that surfs a shield down a stair and can kill a Mumak with 3 arrows in the head. ON THE TOP OF THE HEAD, i mean WTF.

And BTW he never mentioned that elves can teleport through miles of open ground unseen and unheard.

It wasn't epic because the elves basically just stood there and let the orcs stab them, and then they charged into a wall of spears when they could've fired arrows into the narrow space..

Don't get me wrong I love elves, I just hated the way they were portrayed and used.. as beings who can't fight very well.

WTF? Why are there Elves here?

I think Peter Jackson said somewhere in commentary that the elves were added to Helm's Deep to make it somewhat believable that the defenders could hold out against that massive army. The death of Haldir was to show the physical death of a person who would otherwise be immortal.

what about the elf who is plucked from the walls with the stereotypical death scream ^-^

While I didn't mind the silvan elves being there I was pissed off that PJ killed a character who doesn't die

Well he dies in the books too, and he's killed by the same person so the outcome doesn't really change, just the events leading to Saruman's death.

If I'm not mistaken, technically Saruman is the same "race" as Gandalf, no?

And if I remember correctly you cannot ever fully kill them?

Also, the elves didn't even fight very well on the walls.. it looked like they just stood there while the orcs stabbed them..

Thats exaclt what i was going to say. I would have thought they would have been able to seriously thin the uruk-hai ranks out a bit before they got to the walls - they are all apparently master archers and they would have fired off hundreds of arrows, but they barely made a dint (I know there were ten thousand of the enemy, but casualties still seemed fairly low.) And then when the wall is breached, they fired one volley of arrows into the gap and charged in (why did they not just stand back and turn that tiny gap into a corridor of death with their arrows). Enough of my crazy ramblings just thought i needed to say that .

I thought that if they simply let the Uruk-Hai swarm into the breach they would have simply flanked them and round the elves and up onto the walls, into the hornburg etc. charging keeps them from doing that.

although in the end the Uruk-Hai still do that
