    Republic of Florence 1448 Campaign Preview

    Florence will be a very interesting faction to play as it has 3 settlements in Italy but also one settlement in Greece. Historically, the Florentine family of Acciaiuoli acquired the Duchy of Athens and were involved in the struggle to maintain their possession against the Ottoman onslaught.

    Cosimo de Medici - faction leader

    As the Medici family did not officially have a position in the administration of Florence but actually ruled the state behind the scenes we have introduced the ancillary for the faction leader of Florence as First Citizen of Florence. This is a modern historiographical term that is used by historians to refer to Cosimo and later Lorenzo as unofficial rulers of Florence.

    Well there's really no option whether to side with the French or not. They will come as a horde rampaging central Italy.

    Maybe in future versions we can have some sort of choice.

    Hire a condottiere and send him helping the Acciaiuoli in Athens, father as son were abysmally bad commanders in my game. Can't recall if it was Malatesta or another I sent, but fighting turks was much easier with a decent commander. I haven't played til french had no free time sadly.
