Mobile Broadband is a cruel mistress

About a year ago, we got mobile broadband from 3. Just one of those modems you stick into your computer, and it is seriously annoying.

In terms of gaming especially. LOTRO comes out today free to play. I used to play the game a while back and still have the disk. I stopped playing because I didn't think it was worth the monthly payment anymore. However, now that it's free, I wouldn't mind picking it up again. Thing is, it's not actually free to play for me because the modem has a download limit, it would take no time to go over that playing online and then we'd have to play ridiculous prices.

Then there's the consoles. The NBA 2K11 demo is coming out of Wednesday and I really want to get. For most people it's just a simple trip to PSN and wait for it to download. But for people with mobile broadband you have to go through the annoyance of connecting your computer to your PS3.

And all this for what? A massively inconsistent internet connection that works one day and not the next for no apparent reason. That just randomly disconnects itself at times, only to reconnect itself 2 seconds later. That takes a very precise routine to get it to connect sometimes. That, a while back, just stopped working for over a month and when we rang customer service, they told us it might be our computer, even though one of their masts was down

So yeah, basically I don't like mobile broadband or 3

I feel sorry for you, I really do. I'm on the stuff for a month overseas with a 5GB (reloadable) limit and three of the youtube videos I usually watch will blow right through the 5GB. Even accepting an invite to a bowling game on skype is a bandwith hog >< (the download portion, and watching 300k a sec wash away while the d/l is taking forever is frustrating)

A while back I downloaded uTorrent without realising it uploads your files by itself. In only one day, I got 8 messages from 3 saying that I had gone over my limit and had to pay an extra 80 euro

It's so unversitile (is that a word). I'm trying to connect my PS3 to the internet at the moment. There are two wires covering the double doors at the front of my house. If anyone tries to get by, they'll most likely pull down the computer and the television.

There is another internet provider in our area. They came out, checked around the house and told us we were able to their connection. Then the never came back and when we called it went straight to the answering machine. It's like they don't want more buisness.

So we're stuck with this crap.

I have 3 mobile broadband as well.

The first two years after we got it, it was like yours. Then they upgraded it in this area and now it's super fast (it's sometimes faster than the advertised speed amazingly) and almost never breaks.

Well, mine has been like that ever since it was down for that month. Not super fast, but it's not braking either. I still get all the other little annoyances though
