Default Question regarding scripts and some other things

    Hello, fellow DLVers!
I can't say I'm a great fan of DLV, because until yesterday I haven't played a single campaign. The last time I played it was long time ago and I gave up on it because of the long turns. I have however played DLVifications of Kingdoms campaigns a lot and I must say they are excellent.

Now that the recent circumstances have forced me to download the latest version of DLV (6.2), I have played a campaign with England. I am currently on turn 22 and all I can say is... bloody amazing! This kind of campaign I've wished for for so long. And all this time it was just a few mouse clicks away. I am angry at myself that I haven't tried it for all this time. However now that I see how awesome it is, several questions arise....

    1. What are the consequences if I do not use this mod with 1.5 version of Kingdoms? I have 1.4 installed, but it seems to work just fine.

    2. Is there really no way to reduce the turn times? Can't there be some scripts removed or something else done? I am desperate about this, the turns take 1-2 minutes. Turn 20 means 40 minutes of nothing but waiting! That's madness! I am ready for any compromise.

    All the best,
    Neige

In which case I'm sorry but I recommend you get a faster PC or play a different mod. Otherwise you're only going to get it performing faster by removing stuff.

But 1 to 2 minutes is not bad, maybe don't do maths with it and try to make it seem worse

The question about using the wrong version of the game... Why are you using the wrong version of the game?

I am considering to buy a new pc for a while now, but something more important on which to spend the money always come into my plans...

I am sorry if I am being intolerant, but 2 minutes is way too much for me because I am used to other mods taking 10 seconds at max... Can you maybe name the scripts that iyo take most of the time?

I don't have an opinion about which scripts take the most time to process. They're all essential, as in parts of the game, and they don't impact on the speed of the game anywhere near as much as pathfinding calculations. It's a big map and 31 factions, that's the main problem for speed.

If you think turn times are bad now, wait until the rebels are wiped out and each faction is as bloated as it can be. That is when the game really slows down.

But I got addicted to DLV back when I was using an AMD 2500xp and 1gb of ram. 5-10 minutes a turn? Not a problem since there was no game I'd rather play.

Since then I, and possibly others too, have made substantial improvements to turn speeds. But ultimately if you want what this game offers then you have to be willing to pay for it

    edit:

BTW turns take 20-30 seconds for me with my i530 @4ghz and 4gb ram. I suppose that might creep up to 2 mins or more in the late game.

Wow... ok, I understand. Now 1-2 minutes do not seem that much. Oh well, I guess I'll have to be content for now. Thank you for your time...

I usually have the TV on in the background so I can channel flip during AI turns. Failing that, I've even had another game running on the PS2 or Xbox that I can play for a few turns while the AI processes its turns on DLV.

my pc is decent and take 1 min during turns...and run all the graphic details high on the map or in the battle.
try advanced system care professional..some antispyware...defragmentation..system booster

also i think u should use the 1.5 patch...it may turn ur game faster...try that, it may worth !?

edit: my turn time is ranging from 15 to 30 sec

You should install the same mod TATW uses, I don't remember the exact mod name so just ask around there and you'll bound to get it. This is how it works: You can easily press [ALT] + [Tab] and do something else while the turn loads. The change between DLV and internet explorer goes in 2 seconds instead of loading the game back and forth.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
