I am playing as GB and finally took Norway. Shouldn't I be able to recruit a unit of the Coldstream Guards now? I don't see the option. Do I need a specific building there?

Yes. You do need a higher level barracks to recruit better troops. Recruitment of special troops has nothing to do with the region you are in, ie. If you capture a desert territory, you don't get camels.

To recruit Coldstream guards, you need an Army Board (Barracks Lvl 5) in your territory.

I don't think this is correct. I believe some units are region-specific.

Yes some units are region specific . If i remember well, coldstram guards are to be trained in scotland. But have a look at the buidling browser to be sure what level you need of building. I'm not sure about coldstram guards, but for a lot of examples, look at the DLC pages at steam, they describe what you need.

For elite units you often need also a technology. Sometimes it depends on your goverment type. (republican guard can be trained in a monarchy, certain Guards can not be trained in a republic)

Republican Guards are recruitable only in republics, and republics cannot recruit any guards (Which is especially annoying for the Dutch with all those DLC guards).

Well really what I meant was the camels thing, actually made quite a stupid mistake, considering I have recruited Pandours and suchlike after capturing Austrian/Northern Ottoman region

Actually I think you can only recruit them from Scotland and with an Army Board. I may be mistaken though, it's been a while since I played as Britain.

I just recruited them - Army Board in Scotland, not available anywhere else. I'm still constitutional monarchy, if that makes a difference

Coldstreams are nothing to do with Norway. If you are a Constitutional Monarchy you can recruit the Guards, isn't it?

You could recruit them globally if you use DBEditor to edit the data, but that's a different story. In short, Coldstreams are in Scotland only.
