Default Fellas, should I have my maniple infantry hold formation, or let em loose?

In most other mods when I play as Rome or spear type infantry i have them hold formation, espeically if they are hodling the center of my battle line, the flanks are "free formation" maniple and skirmersh to have flexibilit,y is the the way to work the roman maniples in Roma Surrectum?

I find a use a mix of both, if the fighting gets really heavy, I try to use Guard, so they can hold the lines sort of speak, while I get some units around to try and flank them.

Plus, Roman Infantry has better Defensive values then offensive values, so I try to take advantage of that when I can.

I'm sure more vets can give further details and all.
