    Default EDU help

    hey MTWII fans:

I am having trouble changing unit stats for MTWII/Kingdoms.
Basically i unpacked everything and i change unit stats but when i run the game the original stats remain in place.

    i have added

    [io]
    file_first = true

at the bottom of the medieval2preferences.cfg file and changed this file so it is read only.

i've also deleted both descr_geography files so the game never crashes.

but the problem is the game still reads the original vanilla data stats.

for example i tried changing Gothic Knights to 60 unit size instead of 32 but when i run the game it is still 32. lolz i am getting frustrated.

    thanks for all the help!

so the readme file suggests this:

    - To use the modified files create a batch file in your
    Medieval II: Total War folder

    - In the batch file add the following line

    medieval2.exe --io.file_first

    - NOTE: Due to a timestamp check, the following unpacked files will
cause the game to crash and must be deleted before the game is
    launched:

    data\descr_geography_new.txt
    data\descr_geography_new.db

    - Save the batch file and then launch Medieval II: Total War using the
    newly created batch file.

but how do i create a batch file and how do i launch MTWII using a newly created batch file?
i usually just click the 'launch MTWII icon'...

also does the batch file contain just 'medieval2.exe --io.file_first' and that's all?

finally, would this change stats in kingdoms too or just mtwii cuz i want to changes to affect both games!

    thanks guys!

Now that I have moved the thread to the Q&Q section, let me give a suggestion:

Download and install my Bare Kingdom mod. It is the most basic mod folder for kingdoms that you will get, only files necessary to use the kingdoms.exe instead of the mdieval2.exe are included.
Copy the files that you want to edit from your unpacked files into that mod folder (into the appropriate sub folders) and try them out.
